Default Spacer, Rubber Isolator....Or what?

OK I have some MAJOR spring movement on my 2001 Disco D2!

While wheeling, or any type flexing for that matter I can hear a loud clank in addition to feeling it through the truck floor-board as the springs move back into place. It is so loud that many can hear it a few trucks back on the trail.

I have heard a few mentions of rubber isolators from Land Rover. What else can I do to resolve this issue? Thanks! RC

would you perhaps have a dislocated spring??? or maybe it dislocated at one point and the insulator is missing now???

You can also use spring retainers but you might lose some of your flex. I am assuming you are using the cones to keep your springs going back into place. Yes, the rubber isolators will cut down on some of the noise but not all of it.

I have heard the noise springs make like you described and everytime I hear it I wonder if something is breaking!

Good luck.

Thanks! I checked it all out. The truck is back on jack stands again for the third time this week. I pulled all the wheels and looked, it all appears to be in shape.

The noise is very bothersome and does make it sound as though something major has just broke!

I was having something similar happening on my 2000 D2. One of the rear shocks was wore out and everytime the suspension would flex to a longer length I would hear a loud clank and I could feel it. I replaced the rear shocks with Pro Comp shocks and corrected the problem. May want to try that.

The rubber isolators work well- it's the nature of the beast when you do a longer travel suspension than stock. You can either put on retainers or listen to the noise. Keep in mind that a retainer on the bottom in the rear will cause it to unseat at the top- I found that a large industrial grade zip-tie solved that.

I'm out of the rubber thingies- but if you want some springs and shocks that are matched length I can sure help you out. I'll be getting a buttload of rubber isolators in my next container from the U.K. but the manufacturer was out of stock for this month's shipment.

Is the noise coming from the front, if so check to make sure that the bottom part of the coil rotated into it's little notch, if not you can get some movement.
By the way, I used some of Rovers spacers for a little extra height adjustment and they worked really well.

Yes someone mentioned those Rover Spacers to me. So do I need 2 for each spring (top and bottom)? Or just one for each spring? Thank you so much for the advice Mike, Steve, and everyone else!

You can use one top and or one bottom depending on your needs. Each will give you a 1/2" in lift and of course stop any spring noise while wheeling.
Some people us them to adjust the height balance across the front of a truck and may only use one on one side a two on the other, what ever, they work well.
John Lee at http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ has them in stock.
Take care,
Mike
