Spare Keys - Land Rovers Only

I want to get some spare keys made for my 2001 DII.
I have checked the forum archives but still looking for more info.

Has anyone made spare keys for thier disco? Any ideas or advise??

I had a duplicate made at walmart from a GM blank. It unlocked the doors and started the disco but its touch and I am worried it will screw up the ignition so I'm not using it.
I then tried having one made from a blank I found at ACE hardware but that did not work well either.

What about the blanks on Ebay? There are some LR genuine blanks with and without alarm remotes and then there are blanks from a company called ILCO.
Anyone have experience with any of these?

I think the disco has a very finicky locking system. I've had a copy made at the dealership that worked so-so, and a couple more done around town. The best one was made by a local lock smith using an Ilco X239 RV4 blank. It took some hand filing by him to get it right though.

I'll try that Key part # with some local smiths to see if they can do it.

I'm starting to wonder if it may be better to take advantage of my extended warranty and complain about the ignition to the point that they replace it and get a bunch of keys along with the new ignition!

Anyone else have ideas. Many people must have made spare keys for thier DIIs before...

Damn, I was hoping for better news regarding the key. I once thought I lost mine while dirtbiking and every locksmith I called wanted to charge insane prices.

Luckily I found it.

O.B. about how much approx was that key you had made bud?

For just a standard key copy without the remote doorlock function was just $8.00.
If your talking about a replacement with remote, I don't know--probably insane prices!
