When I start my 99 DII when its cold out it makes a constant grinding noise for about 10 seconds then stops. It doesnt do it when its warm. I have no idea what it is. It doesnt sound like the engine though, it sounds more like its coming from under the car like the tranny. Any ideas?

Your Bendix assembly is stuck, when cold, causing the starter gear to stay engaged into the flex plate. You need to get rid of that starter before you damage the teeth on the flex plate, then you would have to separate the tranny from the engine to replace it also.
