Default Strange Engine Noise 2004 Disco SE7

I am experiencing what I believe to be an issue with my Disco. It only has 39K miles on it and a strange noise has developed. When accelerating under 2K RPM, the engine noise in the cabin gets louder. The sound coming from the engine reminds me of a sewing machine. I don’t necessarily hear any knocking but the engine sounds like an old tired engine. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?

Are you still in warranty, if so head straight for the dealer.

Unfortunately not. Does this sound like it could be an exhaust tick or lifter tick?

Check your oil level! You may be a quart low and def go to the dealer if your oil level is good.

Actually, my '03 D2 SE7 with 35K miles, experienced a similar noise which the dealer diagnosed as a transfer case failure (a $3k repair). Luckily, I had put a LandRover extended warranty on the truck after the factory warranty expired.

If you can, get the extended warranty. The $3k that it cost was worth it was redeemed with this one repair.

Bon Chance.
