Default stuck in park- please help!!!

hello, I am the owner of a 2003 Discovery and can't get the shifter out of park. any help would be VERY appreciated...

a little background: I was hit on the rear driver's side a few days ago and the impact busted my rear bumper so much that the tail light wires were disconnected. I was able to drive it still until yesterday when the stuck shifter happened and now I'm stranded in a parking garage. anyway, I read a few posts and figured the exposed tail light wires shorted the brake light switch so I bought a new one and replaced it - didn't work. is there any way I can get it out of park just enough to drive it to the dealer?

thank you in advance...

Remove knob from shift lever (just pull straight off very hard)
Remove the cover from the shift lever (just pry it up i beleive)
locate the solenoid to the right of the lever (little cyliner with a nub that sticks out to prevent shifting).
remove it (i forget, but I think it is just a couple screws.
you can either leave it out or figure out what is wrong and replace. either way, with this solenoid removed, you will be able to shift out of park
the problem probably does not lie in the solenoid itself (most likely in the micro switch under the brake pedal) This will get you moving agin without too much trouble though
very easy to do

hope this info is complete and helps
sorry if it is not, it has been a while since i was in there

this is a common problem, it's almost certainly the switch on the brake pedal.

A quick test would be to press on your brake pedal and see if you have brake light, if you don't you need a new brake switch.
