Default Suggestions on Disco Choice?

Hi all....after having my other Disco explode and burn (see other thread)...I've finally convinced my wife to "let" me get another. It will be used and I've gotten decent deals on the 2003 and 2004. Any particular models / years I should stay away from? Head gasket issues still present these years?

As always, thanks!

Well in a 2004 versus 2003, the 2004 has center diff lock... so if you offroad at all, that is definitely the preferred model.

If you want to modify a lot, go with a Series I disco (cant remember exact years). If you look there are some mall crawlers around.

The Series II's seem more comfortable though. Just a big butt rear overhang to drag and more electrico.

Any of the later model Disco I series. I'm not a fan of computer controlled 'everything'.

No sense buying a non-CDL equipped Disco

2004 will hold a higher resale then a 2003 because it has the CDL and it wa the last production year of Rovers best vehicle.

im not sure what your use of this Disco is for, but yeah if you got the money and you want comfort and youre going to wheel it i agree with the CDL 04.

if you want to build a beast...get a D1....97-99 with coil-packs (sorry my opinion)

you guys forget that in the middle of the 99 and all of 2000 was the beginning of the D2s. those didn't have the CDL linkage, but had the nipple for it on the transfer case. so you can get a cheap 2000 D2 with all the comforts and get a conversion kit for the CDL (expedition exchange sells them)

good luck

My 96 has coil a coil pack...I agree...if you are planning on wheelin it harder than just taking it on service roads, buy a D1 and mod it!

Can you provide a link for the conversion kit?

Thanks...

Go to Safari Guard. Com under Disco 2's and look around, you will find this conversion.

I love my 03 but as other have said I would get an 04 because of the CDL. I'm going to purchase a 04 tcase for mine in the begining of the year. The 03 has the TC which works pretty well actuallly but no substitute for the CDL.
