Default synthetics everywhere ?????

Greetings,

I just sold my beloved Jeep and this now makes my 2000 D2 my daily driver. I have the firm intention in making it the best that it can be. So one of my next move will be to change all fluids to synthetics. So, wich make and what grade do you recommend for the axles, transmission and transfer case??? Also, what is the quantity I need for each components???

I will most likely take the opportunity to change the transmission filter and the transfer case seal ( oil is leaking from the e-brake drum).

Mobil1 makes a great gear oil in the 75W/90 range for the diffs and t/case. You can go pure synthetic on the tranny, requires a flush to do it but worth it and of course the engine oil based on what ever weight you use.

Got the t-case rear output seal, and now waiting for the transmission filter and gasket kit to go ahead with the synthetics oil changes.

My question now is regarding the procedure to completely flush my transmission of DexronIII before going full synthetic.

Also, Which synthetic oil is to replace the DexronIII????

Thanks, I'd most likely get it all done next week-end ( Sept.15th)

Steph,
You only need to change the tranny filter at 30,000 miles, past that it is fluid changes only. Are you going to have a shop flush your tranny so you can do a near 100% fluid replacement?

Well, I figured that since I wanna go full synthetic in the tranny, I have to change the transmission filter.

Second, Which synthetic ATF should I use to replace the DexronIII.

And yes I will got to a transmission shop to have this all done. I've heard too many times about people starting having troubles with their tranny after doing stuff themselves.

But, to make sure before it's done, it is recommended to switch to full synthetics ??? right ??? I'd hate to regret a move that is intended to improve to longivity of an already problemless tranny. As far as the filter is concerned, it was apparently done a few years ago, but doing it again will just assure me that it actually did.

Steph, make sure your transmission shop knows how to service your D2 trans. It's a seal unit unlike most vehicles.

When doing a flush, they don't need to know anything but the total volumn of fluid your tranny takes.
Check with the shop that will be doing the flush, see if they have any synthetic fluid, if so it is easier to have them supply it.
Have fun,
Mike

They should at least know that there is no dipstick/ filler tube. Most vehicles can be filled from the engine bay via the dipstip/ filler tube not the D2. It might avoid the guy a good 30 minutes looking for it!
