Default TD5 Engine Miss

Hello,

I was searching the web in an attempt to find a cure for the engine miss that my 02 TD5 Disco is experiencing.

The miss occurs under any load at any speed from start off to 120KPH.

Having spoken to a L/R specialist I was advised to look at the following potential causes.

1. Short in wiring loom that runs over the top of the A/C Compressor.
2. Oil in ECU Unit
3. Battery Terminals Corroded

To date none of the above seem to be the cause of the miss. I am concerned that the electronic accelerator mech may be on the way out.

If anyone has had a similar experince with a TD5 any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Almost certianly oil contamination in the injector loom.

To check remove the ecu pull the red plug off and if it has oil in you need a new loom.

Inj loom seal is the fault this allows oil to track down the engine loom into the ecu and causes the misfire

Remove rocker cover unplug old loom plug in new loom and refit cover 45 minutes tops.

Loom cost £35 from landrover.

Did mine a few months ago.

Unfortunately the loom was not the issue. It's completely dry and clean. Many thanks for your lead.

Under the advice of an L/R specialist I have also replaced the Air Mass/Flow Meter behind the air filter box. Still not the cause of the fault.

According to the specialist he cannot find a fault with the electronic accelorator.

Still at a loss as to why the miss is occuring. On the positive side it now seems to be limited to speeds between 90 and 120KP/H unbder slight load. Right in the turbo sweet spot.

Next step is to look at the turbo regulator that sits on top of the motor to see if it is playing up.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Mine was down on power but not misfiring and the fault was the iat sensor on the inlet manifold, cost £38 from the landrover dealer.

I still reckon you have a injector fault either electrical or mechanical.

Fuel does seem to be the issue. Now down to fuel filter and or pump. The water in fuel warning light flickered on for a second so I am hoping it's as simple and cheap as the filter. Will let you know if this resolves the issue.

Thanks again for your advice.

After a lot of head scratching and frustration I discovered that the engine miss did not occur when cruise control was engaged.

This meant only one thing. The fly by wire throttle (accelorator) was faulty. The voltage being sent to the ECU was all over the place. Having replaced the potentiometer the engine is running as new.

Thanks again for your input.
