Question Technical Advice Needed

My SES light came on today. I took the 99 Discovery II to Autozone to have the codes read(free, saved me $$$ !!). It has 70,000 miles and I don't really know the service records. Five codes showed read in this order.

1. Cylinder 3 misfire
2. High voltage O2 sensor
3. Cylinder 5 misfire
4. Cylinder 7 misfire
5. Cylinder 3 misfire

After the codes were cleared I drove it home and the light did not return. My first instinct is to check the spark plugs and wires for wear.

The Autozone employee thought that the O2 sensor high voltage indicator was a faulty O2 sensor. The part ranged from $160-$140(did not buy or order).

Any advice from the more experienced would be greatly appreciated.

Default Codes

I did not get the code, I am sorry. If it happens again I will get the code and post it.

I will start by checking the driver side wires and plugs. If they are bad I will definitely change all out. Thank you for helping

Lesson learned, get the codes.

When was the last time you replaced the plugs? It's supposed to get a new set at 60K

If the plugs appear to have much wear, then I would suggest new plugs and a set of 8mm Magnecor plug wires, that would need to be ordered on line, for starters.
Next time the light comes on, get the exact 4 digit fault code number and get back to us.

Default More Codes Today

The light came on today, codes are as follows:

P1300
P0303
P0305
P0300
P0303
P0305

I have purchased 8 new plugs. I checked under the hood and looked at the plugs(did not take them out) they do look like they have not been replaced in a while.

I also was wondering if unhooking the battery will reset the SES light when I am finished. I have a battery powered adapter that fits into the cigarette lighter to retain power to the chip. Does this piece of equipment work with LR? If not I will take it to Autozone and have it reset(free!!, free is for me.)

You are going to need plugs and wires, 8mm Magnecor's, then after installing them go have the codes cleared at your locaql auto parts store. Unhooking the battery won't do a thing for you other then require you to enter a radio code in your radio so you can use it again and reset the a/c temp controls.

Thumbs up Thank you!!

I changed the plugs and wires tonight. It is a completely different vehicle now. I can not believe the difference!

Thank you for the responses. It is awesome to get great advice to back up an educated guess. I have realized one thing, only experienced LR drivers have a clue about them. Anyone else is definitely guessing on a vehicle that they should not guess on.

It ran great tonight and I think I will be in the clear when I get the codes cleared and the SES stays off!! Until then, reserved joy!

Default Ses

I was under the impression that the SES light should have needed a reset after I did the plugs and wires. I drove it a bout 10 miles, three restarts and the SES light went off. Trust me I am not ungrateful just curious. Must be the first person on the site complaining that the light went off! lol.
