I find the best deals sneak up on you unexpectedly. When I was shopping for my Discovery, I was originally looking for a Series 1. I drove all sorts of disco's to get a gauge for what I should be looking for.
The day I went to accually start the process to buy a D1, I noticed my future D2 sitting in the back of the lot. I thought it was gorgeous. The price was right, and the wife most definately approved. So what if it doesnt have a CDL? I'll put one in. No 4.6L? I can put one of those in too. Hell, a place in town here sells a conversion to diesel for Disco's. Point is, I got exactly what I wanted, even though it wasnt originally what I was looking for. |

just to confirm what alak has said i too was looking for something other than the current vehicle, i was looking for a TD5 with all the bells and whistles, mileage was unimportant so long as the service history was there.
so shock horror for the equivelant of US$ 28K I purchased a Genuine G4 challenge vehicle, with just under 4k miles and one careful owner 18 months later it is still a delight to drive with no issues, well maybe except the price of fuel (=us$2.00 / litre) here in the UK.Regards martin

I own a '98 DI w/some engine mods, a '99 DII stock and an '89 RRC. I like them all and have no intention of owning anything else but a land/range rover.
My friends think I'm nuts, but little do they know! The Discoverys have been VERY reliable, particularly the DI. The DII is the most comfortable vehicle I've been in, on or off-road. The RRC, I just bought but like the simplicity and the fact that it just GLIDES over large speed bumps, curbs and ford escorts! Not to mention the fact that with better/bigger tires and a brush guard, it looks right down NASTY!! ![]()

My wife doesnt like driving the DII because the steering is 'dodgey', an unavoidable fact of Solid Front Axle and big wheels. She also thinks the turning radius is no better than a city bus. Otherwise she likes it alot. She just doesnt like driving it.
When I first bought it, the only thing that bothered me was the turning radius. Had to 3-point park the first couple days before I got used to it. |

well, I think I have found one. I have agreed on a good price with the seller, just have to verify his certified warranty will transfer to me, then will sign on the dotted line and will have a new rover.
the one I found is an '04 Disco II SE7. silver with black interior. rear air, cold weather package, and headrest DVD entertainment system included. I did drive an LR3 today, too. very nice rig. but too nice to sit around depreciating most days. also all the electronics that that thing relies on just scare me. so Disco II it is.

for those that didnt see it over there, I posted in the lounge about my change of plans.
I am instead paying a little more for a blue '04 SE7 with about 40K miles left on its warranty and around half of the actual miles on it than the one I had been looking at. that and I found out that the first 11K miles on the other one were spent as a hertz rental. that cant be good. so, the blue one is in Tulsa. flying there to pick it up tomorrow.
