Default Three Amigos!! what should I do?

Hello Friends

For the last two days here in NY we had a lots of snow and ice, driving home from work yesterday I could not stop thinking how well the truck handled, it felt unstoppable and secure, TC briefly came on only once on the worst hills in my city. After cleanup today I took the family for a drive and on the way back I made a brief stop, as soon as I start moving a beep came on and the three amigos showed up. The ABS, TC and HDC amber lights are on, turned the truck off and back on but the lights are still on.

What should I do? Is it safe to drive the truck for other that the trip to the dealer? I know the ABS is disabled.

I have two options a trip to my LR mechanic and have him read the codes and see what else. Or I can go to the dealer, pay the deductible of the extended warranty and wait at least a couple days until they return my truck. Usually the second option takes much longer: appointment, loaner, phone call back, Etc.

I have a '01 SE7 ACE and 58K. As always your input is greatly appreciated.

Figman, have you done a search on this? There are about a million threads coving this very topic. Personally, I'd bring it into the dealer and let them deal with it. Might as well put some miles on somebody else's vehicle, right?

I assume you have a $100 deductable? It's money well spent on this issue, mine took (5) times in total to get it fixed properly.

I hope it turns out okay for you (PS, your ABS should technically still function, at least mine did).

Cheers.

I would suggest, if you have a shop that can diagnois the ABS problem, that you let them do the work, as long as you have an aftermarket warranty. If it is the Rover extended warranty then you'll have to go to the dealer and authorized some $ amount for diagnostic time, find out what is wrong, get it approved and repaired.
Good luck,
Mike

O2disco; In fact I did some searches, what is interesting is that I drove the truck for a while and on the way back I stopped on a incline (tilted to the left about 20 degrees) with the truck on and the brakes applied for about five minutes. Once I started driving in about three seconds I heard the buzzing sound and the lights came on. It is like something snapped or got out of aligment.

Anyway another call to the dealer tomorrow. Is it safe to drive it like that?

Mike: as always your help is also greatly appreciated.

A faulty abs will not (should not) affect the regular braking of your vehicle. It is a system designed to fail in a safe mode. Your abs braking may not work but your regular braking should.
All that being said, it is a Land Rover and if anybody can screw up abs braking, and they have, it's Land Rover.
Best thing to do is have the codes read.
My trio of lights is on more then it's off and I haven't run over anything yet.

Just got back my truck this morning; turned out to be that the left front hub assembly was bad; replaced under extended warranty. What pissed me off is that while taking the left front rotor out, a piece of the rotor chipped, they said it was below thickness specs, so I had no choice but to pay for the broken one and replace the other side as well. The pads were replaced by my mechanic three or four months ago, so no need to replace them. Anyhow, I had to replaced both rotors and pay for only one side labor plus the deductible for the hub assembly. I had a feeling that something like this will come along, it was just a feeling but it became a reality in two days. As guess is a matter of time before the other front one or the rear ones go. I know I will be due for a rear brake job in the summer, I will probably do it myself before I get the three amigos again and the something will "break" while is being service.

Bottom line is that I don't think I had to pay for the part that was broken while it was being service.

Thanks for your input

That's enough to piss you off, but from a liability stand point, they couldn't reinstall the old one. Yes, if they dropped the old rotor, they should have replaced it, but they got you.
Next time something like that happens take a stand, a hard stand and force them to be responsible for their screw up.

Does anyone really recommend preemptively replacing hub assemblies on Disco II's? They are farging expensive! (Why I know is such a painful story...)
