Thumbs up Three months after buying this thing...

Nothing has broken!!!
2001 SE that I bought with 58,000 miles -just- turned 62000. Did the 60K service at the dealership, bought a warranty at warranties4wheels, have driven in all sorts of nasty PacNW winter weather (flooded streets, snow, ice, over a fallen tree blocking the road, etc.)

I love this thing and still experience great joy every morning when I fire it up. I've also used all seven seats a few times--taking the coworkers and work study students out to lunch, a field trip, the movies, and such.

It's a great vehicle isn't it! Glad to hear your enjoying it. I get an adrenalin rush every time I drive mine. So does everyone else on this forum, that is, until the bastard thing breaks down.

x2 !! Don't jinx yourself!

Seriously though, make sure you pay close attention to your front driveshaft U-joints. @60k is when they tend to fail on DIIs. U-joint failure while driving could result in much more severe & expensive damage. Symptoms of u-joints about to go include vibrations thru wheel and a "chirping" or squeaking sound.

Thanks for the heads up
So far so good, I'll go find something to sacrifice to the Rover Gods.

Go you !!!! nice to know some of us get lucky and can keep the few grands one has to give the Rover Gods as a right to own a Land Rover in the first few months of ownership.

Now you should really consider rebuilding your front driveshaft, unless it was done before you purchased it. Otherwise your first breakage could very well be an $8000 one.

Be ahead of maintenance and all will continue to be as sweet as it is.

Rovers usually don't give you too much warning when something starts to go it needs to be addressed NOW !

Its like your Rover telling you : Oh ya, I meant to tell you that..BANG!!!!! too late

Default It's about time that I asked....

Speaking of this u-joint thing, I'm looking at 74,000 miles and I get a vibration in the steering wheel only with my foot on the gas. I have no chirping sounds at all. I just got a band new transmission put in about 3,000 miles ago under warranty. The question is this: If I had a u-joint about to fail would the dealership say the hell with it and put my old u-joint back on? Or would they call me and say, "This isn't covered under warranty, but you're going to need new u-joints."? Surely, they wouldn't throw the front driveshaft back on the truck after replacing the entire transmission with u-joint that look old, warn and about to fail? Wouldn't that be a liability for the dealership? I have also mentioned on 3 different occasions that my steering wheel vibrates at 35 through 40 MPH while accelerating. They have told me 3 different times they can't duplicate the problem. Go figure. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated guys!

Does this apply to all DII's, or just the '02's and older??? My '03 is at 54000 mile and you have me worried.....

All D2s. It will be between $250.00 to $350.00 to rebuild it and although it is not me to speak without having personal experience on a subject, I say go ahead and get it done. Not doing it can be too disastrous to gamble. But hey...that's just me.

I am curious I bought my 99DII with 90,000 miles on it and now it has 104,000 should I be worried of the u joint and front drive shaft, and if so is their any way I can look at it and tell if it needs to be replaced. I don't have all of the tell tell signs yet and I have had the truck for a year now. Should I be worried?
