Thumbs up Throttle body housing coolant

I have small coolant leak from the bottom of the throttle body housing. Not really sure what the part is called, but I have the replacement with three screws and a new gasket. Is there anything unexpected that I could run into? I can see the fluid seeping from the gasket. Do I use a gasket sealant on this fix? I have the rover rave disk, but not too detailed. I assume, because it is too easy and I am worrying about nothing. Any advice will be appreciated. The engine is cooling and I am doing it tonight. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure I have the same leak, I have small gobs of dried coolant on top of the valve cover - is that what you've witnessed as well? How did you know what gasket or screws to get? I'm still trying to figure out where its coming from excactly, any help would be appreciated.

As for your question obviously I haven't done it it yet but it appears straight forward but crowded around that area, that would be my only concern.

Good luck

I just called LR of Anaheim Hills and the service guy told me they make a little kit for $20 with a new gasket - probably the same one you're referring to, part # MGM000010K

Very easy job. I just put a thin film of sealant on either side of the new gasket for extra no-leak insurance. Just go easy on the new screws and don't over-torque them or strip them out.

OJ's DNA, that is the exact symptom I had. I read some other posts that said you can take the throttle body off to do it, or be patient. I had patience and bought a small quarter inch socket wrench and used the 5.5mm socket. I used a very small amount of gasket seal, just to hold it in place in that tight spot. MAKE sure the engine is cool and you open the coolant tank to release the pressure before you unfasten the tubes. Don't ask me how I know, but I am glad the coolant was somewhat cool. No leaks today, crossing my fingers!!

unstable, I have not been a DI. Still active though.

helievacpilot, Thank you for the response. You are right, it was easy, just needed patience. Definitely be very careful with the little screws.

Hi,

You NEED to change this bit. It is easy but the origonals do fail. I have replaced both of mine at about 60 - 70000 km. The new ones are a slightly different design. They should come with a yellow sticker to go on the throttle body.

Happy days
