Default Time to Change Oil Pump?

I know I'm doing this a lot, but this is a post I just made over on D-Web).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Only have about 2500 miles on my newly rebuilt 4.6.

All the bearings (including cam) were changed.

Just recently got all the components needed to install digital gauges for coolant temp and oil pressure.

I remember someone here commenting that they would be afraid to see what their oil pressure was, and now I know what they meant.

It does get about 49-50 PSI at 2000 RPM (as per the Rave CD), but at idle, it goes as low as 13 PSI. Rave does say that 10 PSI is min at idle.

I will likely verify with a mechanical gauge this weekend.

What I am really wanting to know is if it is getting about time to change the pump gears or the whole timing cover.

I was also wondering if anyone else had some numbers (idle and 2000 RPM) to throw out there for comparison.

As a note, a lot of my concern is with the fact that I do hear some ticking/tapping that I just can't identify and I am wondering if it is related to the pressure.

I realize that the tick could just be exhaust, but I have all new manifold gaskets and Y pipe gaskets.

I guess it could also be the crower lifters or heavy duty valve springs I got from D&D, but that almost seems like the tap I'm hearing.

Two different sounds I think.

I probably just need to listen to another D2 for comparison.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Peace,

Dan

PS I'm probably just paronid that I screwed something up during the rebuild, but I did take my time, used the workshop manual and asked alot of questions, so...
