Question Topped off power steering fluid, but still loud

We drove our 01 Series II yesterday and had no problems. Today when, my wife cranks it up, she notices a weird moaning noise. I check it out and the noise is pretty loud and pretty much just there when you turn the wheel. I check the PS fluid and it was a little below the low line. So I got some power steering fluid and topped it off, but the noise is still there with no reduction.

The fluid is swirling but it does look tainted, not clear at all. What do you guys suggest before biting the bullet and taking it to the shop? What is the best way to drain the reservoir if I want to do that and is that a good idea? Also, if I do take it to the shop is it safe to drive it there?

Thanks for any help

Make sure if your car is equipped with ACE that you are using the ACE fluid and that both sides of the reservoir are filled to the appropriate levels.

You don't need to use the ACE fluid unless you just want to stimulate the market.

How many miles on that noisy p/s unit, when was the fluid last changed? PM me your tele number and a good time for me to call you and I'll walk you thruflushing the system which may stop the noise.

Use a fluid pump, or a turkey baster and empty the fluid from the reservoir. Add new fluid and start the vehicle for a few minutes during which you go and turn the wheel from left to right. stop the truck and go empty the fluid again and refill with fresh one and repeat this 3 or 4 times. Then let it cool down and correct the fluid level when cold.
