The TJ's are OK, but a 6 spd.? Never knew they had that tranny until the new JK came out.

The JK's are junk I think...they look fat in the front and flat assed in the rear. The power plant is a shitty 3.8 V6, I preferred the straight 6 as they last a hell of a long time, so at least you have a long lasting motor, unless you drown it or something.

But good luck with your Jeep man! At least you didn't trade the Disco in for a Hummer or some G-Wagon!!

I priced the seal repair at the LR dealership and they quoted me $1200 to repair the seal because you have to remove the transfer case to get to it. The mechanic that repaired the seal told me that the drive shaft comming out of the transmission going into the transfer case was loose and wobbly and said that the seal probably wouldnt last. Two days later it was leaking again so I figured it was a matter of time before the bearings in the transmission went out and I had to have the entire transmission rebuilt. When I bought the Disco it had some factory warranty left and I purchased an extended warranty that helped with the repairs of all the problems but you just shouldnt have that many issues with a vehicle no matter what you buy. Ive had Toyotas, Nissans, Fords, Chevys, and now a Chrysler and none of these vehicles had close to the problems the Disco had. Yea I probably had a dud and I did get alot of help here, especially from Disco Mike. Props to him. Just giving my opinion of my LR experiences.

I did some research on the Jeep before I bought it and figured the 2006 was the best time to buy because they are going to the V6 from the Dodge Caravan. The inline 6 is proven and very reliable and there are a blue million Jeeps on the road and parts are very cheap unlike LR parts. Ironically yesterday on the way home from work I followed a flat bed truck with a Disco on it going toward the LR dealership. Go figure.

What's wrong with a G-wagon??? They come with front, rean and center diff locks, stock. And besides the fact that its squarer than a show box and probably has worse areo dynamics than a Disco, its still charming but, service my cost and arm and a leg and maybe your first born...oh and its a chrysler product too.

The first time I saw a Commander I knew what Jeep was going for. I was pissed but imatation is the best form of flattery.

I hope that FVBRRY enjoys his jeep, but as soon as you get mud on the jeep I think the warranty goes out the window stock or not, so much for trail rated.

On the upside there are an abundance of parts and supports for Jeeps, but like everything in life it comes down to personal perferenance. One can't learn with out making a few mistakes. If FVBRRy comes back to Land Rover at least he won't be wondering what if... No need to be too hard on him, he's just trying some thing new. Isn't that what adventure is all about anyway, trying new things? Isn't that why we got Rovers to begin with? He may have strayed some what but so did Lara Croft.

I have both a 2001 Disco (3" lift, 32s, etc..) and a 2002 Jeep TJ (2.25" lift, 32s).. I like the TJ, but love the disco.. In the next year or so I'll probably be looking to sell both of them and buy a d-90.. best of both worlds.

Default Ouch!you actually said that

FVBRRY said: "I did some research on the Jeep before I bought it and figured the 2006 was the best time to buy because they are going to the V6 from the Dodge Caravan." you're proud of the mini-van engine! common man snap out of it! or did you write that wearing your wife's underwear?

I just came out of three weeks from H_ll, front and rear Prop shaft replacement, Rear electronics module, and an electronic Dif Lock problem that turned out to be bad wiring on my travel trailer...traveling to the shore this weekend and the beast will take us there....No way would I bail, LR is a way of life.

And yes even with that lift Kit on your Jeep...my stock Disco2... I 'm still look'n down my nose at your Heep

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Well, I meant things like a friggen' Escalade EST or the ESV, Navigator, and wanted to go pimp it out. Not a big fan of them.

And that sucks hardcore, if the warranty on Jeeps is voided because the owner wanted to use it for what the damn thing was designed for. Doesn't make sense, but that is how people get their money.

i had a friend buy a new heep it broke down offroad less than 2 weeks later and they refused to warranty it since it was covered in mud. another got tired of his breaking down every time he took it off road and finally told me i could have it if i hauled it out of the woods. my LR have never needed to be towed (except the series when i bought it) as for warranty no problems the service writer knows what i put mine through and is normally the guy spotting telling me no problem i can make.

I'd own a Rubicon if I got it really cheap- otherwise Jeep has nothing appealing anymore.
It's funny because our Rover shop is next door to a Jeep dealer. We get a lot of people walking through our parking lot looking at all the classic and modified Rovers while they get work done on their Jeeps... they always seem disappointed in their jeep after looking at all the Defenders and Series trucks.

Sounds like you were had. Been there. Funny how a $250 quote doubles when they forget to include labor. Now I always get the estimate first, then shop around.EVERY auto maker has problems. Some right off the assembly line. Like Muddy said, I'd own a Rubicon in a minute. But I don't think they're worth $30 G's. Nor do I think a new LR3 is worth $45. And neither Chrysler nor Land Rover appeals to me anymore. So I'll drive the D1 until the friggin wheels fall off. Although the Jeep (Wranglers) is very capble locked and lifted, I've heard too many people say they wish they hadn't gone that route. Well, good luck.
