Default Traded my Disco II for 2006 Jeep TJ

I finally got fed up with the piece of sh-t and traded it for a 2006 Jeep a month ago. After spending tons of money and most recently $600 to replace the rear transmission seal just to have it start leaking again only two days later. I finally got tired of continually spending money on the thing and got the notion to trade it. I bought a 2006 Jeep Wrangler with the 6 speed manual inline 6. the Jeep is awesome. Ive already put a 2 inch lift and 32 X 11.50's M/T. I took it offroading last Saturday and I can honestly say speaking from experiaence that a Jeep is more capable than a DiscoII. By the way I also had a two inch lift and 31 inch mud terrains on the disco. Same as the Jeep so it was a fair comparison. No more Land Rovers for me. The quality just isn't there.

Sorry you had so many problems. Wouldn't really blame that on Land Rover sounds to me like you had a dud. I have a 1984 CJ-7 and I prefer my LR any day. So it all depends on personal taste. Enjoy your jeep man. Pretty bold to post that here though.

More capable...hmmm.

Try towing 8000 pounds with you Jeep, put 7 people in your Jeep, or more than a couple bags of groceries in your jeep.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiance with your Disco. That is too bad. Pretty piss poor of you to come back on here and bash Land Rovers after everyone gave you help. If you think Jeeps are the perfect vehicle, great. The best part is your quality comment... you certainly aren't saying your jeep was built with quality being job one are you?! Hold on to that little piece of crap until the warranty runs out, I wonder what band wagon you'll jump on then? Apparently you didn't look into ALL the problems jeep have.

If you ever want to wheel with a stock D1 some time and actually see what a competant driver can do, let me know. Don't worry I'll bring the straps to pull you out when you can't make it and get stuck!!

Good luck with your HEEP...

well said.

youre complaining about having to repair/replace parts on a vehicle that had how many miles on it? How much did you pay for it? How many years old was it? Buy a CHRYSLER with the same stats and lets see how often one gives you problems vs the other. A CHRYSLER for gods sake. wait til it hits 80k. I had a '98 Wrangler. You'll see...

Land Rovers are way out of budget for folks that work @ Arbys. Its a lifestyle. If you cant afford it, downgrade. Oh wait, you just did.

Jumping on a band wagon? Ummm no. I had enough bad experiences with the Disco. I bought it with 45K miles and had engine problems and had to have it rebuilt at 65K miles. Too many leaks to count, light trio going off every day, cruise went out. I planned to drive it until it died but at 112K miles I got tired of the constant problems.

Work at Arbys. No, Im an Engineer with a 4 yr college degree.

Want to try to follow my Defender?
Part of the problem might be that you aren't 'up' on stuff to know that $600 to repair a $12 seal is pure robbery. It's a quick job for a competent mechanic- and it wouldn't leak again if it was done properly unless there was damage to the casing or shaft- which a competent mechanic would look for.
See how much the Jeep dealer charges for the same thing. I dig Jeeps, I've had a half dozen of them. They won't last past 65K much. My D90 has 152K on it and has fewer problems than the Wrangler I sold after the third engine at 27K miles.

Jesus guys give the man a break!
he has the guts to come on and be truthful, and i thought thats what we LRO's are all about here
he was faithful for a good amount of time, and got tired of the crap we ALL put up with, don't kick a man when he's down for bloody sake

i come here to get honest opinions, not just to hear Positive stuff about Rovers, but real evaluations, there are many times i've thought about packing it in, but this community helped me out, and i stuck with it, for now
and part of that is the understanding that goes with owning a rover, good and bad

good luck fvbrry, i know its been rough, enjoy the Jeep

For future reference, you might want to get a vehicle inspected before purchasing it. A rebuild at 65k? Obviously not normal. More like 365k. Its a shame you got duped.

edit: 100th post. there goes my LRO cherry.

Hey, good luck with the Jeep. Just keep in mind that once that 36,000 mile warranty is up you'll be paying for everything that goes wrong straight out of your pocket, just like you were with your Rover. Of course, since you've already put a suspension lift and larger tires on it, be ready for the dealership to void the drive train warranty along with the coverage for all of the suspension, steering, axle and hub components. That's not a strike against Jeep... they all do that when you modify your ride.

I don't think that the build quality of Land Rover is any worse than any other brand. I think that any truck that is taken off road and has the piss beaten out of it will have things break. It sounds like maybe your Disco had been flogged pretty good when you bought it.

BTW, if I was considering trading for a Jeep I would have waited until the 2007 Wrangler came out. The depreciation on a Disco is going to look pretty good when you see the hit your Wrangler takes when the new one rolls out.

if I were you...I would've waited for the 4 door Wrangler....it looks bad ass!

one thing to remember is once you had your truck OFF pavement...be ready to do some repair...that's just the way it is.

good luck with the new truck.

The Jeep should be fun truck for you. Say what you will, but don't expect a good response when you bash a Rover on landroversonly site....hmmmm wonder why?

I'd drive one, but don't know if I'd say one is more capable than a disco????? For paved trails of the urban warrior, I'm sure its great. Beat it up at all like you can with disco, you'll break something. The good thing is that when something does break- you've got a warrenty for a while and it should be less expensive to do some of the repairs.

Oh and go figure why it feels great to drive, its new- your disco never was.

I felt like you about a week ago when I got the sticky valve syndrome and I researched and talked with a forum member and almost jumped ship. But, you know what? something about the truck next to Hummer its the only true rugged rig on the road. Secondly, look at the Jeep Commander what truck does it remind you of ? Good Luck with your job and not to say anything, but you will buy another rover trust me.

so you got a lemon the odds are higher that the jeep will be too.
most of us have owned a jeep at one time then saw the light.
i just bought my 5th LR and never even thought about buying another heep, especially with chryslers quality these days.
there is a reason alot of jeeps show up on trailers at off road parks, it's the only way they will make it back home.
