will some one level with me who has changed the trans fluid which is the
fill bolt or bolts discovery 2 2000, is the plug on the side of the pan the level check or the 2 bolts on each side directly behind the bell housing or explain it. i see no welch plug on case sides just straight forward explanation, or is this a secret ? help please. ![]() ive 30 years gm drag racing (engine building,bore,mill deck,cc blue printing trans and rear end set up but this sealed gearbox has me perplexed! So how many miles on your truck, if you are getting close to 30K you are ready. Make sure you get a good filter kit and i alway recommend a better ATF, like a synthetic or at least a good additive like Luca to keep the old tranny HAPPY.
There is a trick to refilling the transmission. If I remember right it takes about 6 qts. of fluid and only the first 4 or 4 and 1/2 goes easily. after you get all you can in you must start up the truck, go back and forth between drive and reverse for just less then 2 minutes, then go back and add the rest. Yes you do fill thru the side plug on the pan. Don't forget to due the diffs and t/case and just in case you haven't thought about it, the power steering fluid and the brake fluid. I use synthetic or a GL6 rated gear oil and synthetic p/s and brake fluid, they hold up better. You might also inspect your front drive shaft where the double cardan attaches to the t/case, no jerks, change them cause they will break and it will cause either t/case or tranny case failure.
