Default transmission not engaging

the other day on mt hood my disco was running great then went to turn around and heard a clunk at 1 male an hour felt like it slipped into neutral then all auto trans positoins like its in nutral it will go in to park but clicks for a few secounds ive tried every thing all different positions still nothing had to get a flat bed tow almost 100 miles . any ideas on where i should start.
when in drive front drive line spins but not the rear same with reverse.

You have broken either your front diff or cv joint. How mechanical are you.
Might want to send me your number and I'll call and walk you thru what to do.

i can do almost anything just dont know much about trannys. its at a friends at the moment 50 miles away but im triing to figure out what to look for first.ive been out of work for the past 3 years so doing the work myself is my only option 503-875-8116

When you can, crawl under it and turn the front drive shaft by hand. If you broke an axle or CV then the front shaft should spin by hand.

Star your engine, put it in gear and watch both drive shafts to see which one is spinning. If you find one then you have a front or rear diff issue and yes, lets talk.

thanks disco mike your help and advise was right on the money.i still haven't down loaded the rave manual cuz i suck at computers but it only took me 3 1/2 hours to pull the front dif and put the new one in pease of cake it runs great .next project is a cdl t-case.
