Default trutrac questions

These are directed a bit more to Disco Mike because he has the same truck as I do, but feel free to chime in! thanks in advance...

I installed both front and rear tru tracs and so far so good. Very easy install. However, I am getting some funny results from the TC.
When I corner sharply at low speeds (like when I pull out of the driveway) and put on moderate to heavy accelerator, the TC noise can be heard (you know that annoying spring like sound under the dash). The TC light does not come on on the dash. The noise is very brief and does not seem to affect the handling. Why would you think this happens. The ride is very smooth and there is NO binding of the wheels that I can feel or hear (like you would get on a fully locked diff).

what do you think!

Irun front and rear TT's and never get that noise. If the TC light is not coming on maybe look to other sources. The only time I get a noise out of the TT's is if I go past thier limits, hen they can make a spring/clicking noise.
Now for the stupid question, are they on right front to rear?

Wimp,
One thing to watch with the T.T. is air pressure, both tires on the same axle have to have pressure that is within a pound of one another.
As for the noise, I have noticed sooo much less ETC noise since installing the T.T., not sure where to point you.
Just out of curiosity, what happens if you do the same thing when the CDL is engaged?

have not tried it!
thanks for the response, I will keep you posted as I diagnose more.

I am not sure that I installed them in the correct axle. Other than the box that they were in and the order in which I received them all pointed me to what I think is the correct axle. The box it came in was marked, so I went with it. Seems to drive great and is very smooth! just a little bit of tc noise when I described it.

explain to me why tire pressure would matter? without the trutrac, the tires are all allowed to travel at different speeds without setting off tc....why would tc care if the diff was locked, partially locked, or open?

The TC works in the same way that each wheel has an ABS sensor. If the TC detects that theres acelleration and the wheels are turning at a marginally different speed, it will activate.

LSD's work in the same way, but should only lockup under tourque or acelleration. Another problem with LSD's and the TC is that if the tires are a different diameter, it will work improperly. This includes tire pressure, which can change diameter.

All odd TC annoyances aside, the TruTracs are NIGHT AND DAY better than stock. WOW! very happy I decided to get them so far.

Wimp!

I have a Quaife (which is the same as a TT, basically) in the front of my Focus, and I have found that when applying power with the wheels turned, especially when they are turned car, the diff can actually cause the outside wheels to spin faster than the inside. It's weird, but sometimes I'll get outside front wheelspin before inside. Anyway, that might be what's activating your TC. It thinks it's wheelspin.
