Default Vague Steering

Hi,
Wondering if any one has come across the same problem with their Disco.

I have just aquired my second DII, an '03 facelift model.
The steering in my previous truck ('99 model) was very precise, and never gave me any problems but I have noticed in this new one that the steering is not as precise and wanders, especially picking up white lines.

I am running Goodyear Wranglers HP's with 18" alloys and I am sure I have read somewhere that these are known for this type of vague steering.
The main dealer said that this was due to the Disco having a steering box, not rack and pinion, but this surely shouldn't cause this problem, as I had no issues with a previous model.

I have taken the truck back to the dealer, who has so far changed all the brakes, but are adamant that there is nothing wrong with the steering.

Any advice?

Bob

How many miles on the truck? The truck should not be loose, start by rotating the best tires to the front, then air the fronts to 35 and the rears to 40, see how it drives. If it is still there then you need to get it into a good alignment shop, not the dealer, and have them inspect it.

go underneath the truck and rock the tie rod ends.

on the ground they will be loose.

trust me on a two post lift if not lifted on the axle you wont feel it.

you need to have the suspension settled.

push up on both tie rod ends front and back.

Its only done 38,000.
The dealer said it could be the air pressure, but had not done anything about it.
I'll rotate the wheels and check the pressures again, and get an alignment done.
Thanks for the quick reply.
