Hi all, just registered to this site but I have been an avid follower for about a month and finally decided to ask a question.
I have a 2003 Disco II SE7 which I bought new in 2003. I have loved and cared for "Mildred" (good English name) faithfully; and she has behaved like a real lady...so far nothing extraordinary has broken (thank god). I am nearing the end of the factory warranty period and based upon the information I have read on this forum, I have been looking into extended warranties. So my question is what is the best to get. I have heard about a couple of the non-LR warrantys and at the dealership they have told me about the LR warranty which they say is essentially the same as extending the factory warranty. What do you guys suggest as the best warranty. All comments welcome. |

No extended warranty is anything like the original. I too have the extended Land Rover certified Plus warranty and it is a ROYAL PITA. It is no longer the disgretion of the dealer to make repairs, it is the decision from a pencil pusher sitting behind a desk in New Jersey. If your repair is somewhat significant, they send a representative to the dealer to inspect. Here's the best part.. to even GET to this point you have to agree to pay the labor charges of tearing down your vehicle incase it isn't covered. (Been there.. done that..)
I don't mean to sound bitter, since it has saved me some serious coin, but the whole process has left a VERY bad taste in my mouth.

At this point no warrantee will allow the discretion of the dealer. All warranties have to be called in and many companies will send someone out for the smallest.
LR certified covers the most, Unfortunately they do require inspectors for some things like oil leaks and some high expensive stuff. But alot of times the claim goes thru alot quicker then alot of the aftermarket ones. The Service writer doesnt have to do alot of work and its much easier. Unfortunately some things do take more time now. I am sorry but thats the case with expensive vehicle. The insurance companies don't roll over anymore. |

I have a LR extended and its great.. My head gaskets just went out, along with a bunch of other gaskets that needed replacing and some other stuff, total of $2500.. dealership diagnosed it, called the adjuster on Monday, he was there and everything was approved by Tuesday.. great service.. your results may vary though..

Go for the LR extended warranty, my wife has it on her 2000. Saved us THOUSANDS on repair bills! She is finally getting her new trans. after many complaints... not bad for only a $100 deductable! How is your relationship with your dealer? I think that has alot to do with what gets done under warranty and how many problems you have getting it done.

head gasket oil leaks are common as the day is long.
Actually all the gaskets leak oil. Its just the Intake and the frt timing cover that leak alot of coolant. Hell I can pull in any Disco and in three minutes and give you a repair estimate over 3 grand or more. thats why you buy the extended warrantee cause if its not leaking now, trust me it will. |

I went with the factory Land Rover extended warranty. It cost a little more, but I have the piece of mind that the dealership can not weasel their way out of. Here in Hawaii some car company's sell warranties, but will not honer them. Their story is they say they just sell the warranty not honor them

Lots of good info here...looks like the consensus is that LR warranty is the best, the most expensive, AND the most likely to be honored.
Well, I sorted thought that before I posted but I wanted to here from you guys to see if I may have missed something. Thanks for all the replies...and I will purchase the LR Warranty. I'll still monitor this thread just in case someone chimes in with a warranty horror story that will chill the blood... ![]() |

I know when I was looking around, I only found one company that would warrantee a Land Rover and their covered parts list was short..Drivetrain ONLY! Either way I would go Land Rover Certified, just to be safe!
