Ok long story short. I have a 99 DII. The dealer just rebuilt the top end. Runs ok, a little tapping in the engine, almost unnoticeable
. Engine is not smooth at idle, well atleast compared to my D1, which sometimes I can't even feel running. Any way, I have lots of codes popping up on the computer. Most of them having to do with the O2 sensors. I just bought this from PO, he had the dealer do the work. PO told me "service engine light" was burned out. Replaced dash, light is on, results below returned. Funny thing is there is no noticable diff, in the MPG. 12 city, almost 14mpg combo. Highway was 18mpg. I was in a city where there was Emissons Testing. Needless to say it failed!! I have it in a city where testing is not required. but I would still like to find out whats going on. I am told there is a 1 year warranty on the work. I am in a diff city than the work was done though, so I will take it to local dealer. Dealer installed new plugs, wires. I have not checked to see if they are propery gapped. I have not installed new O2 sensors as of yet. There is a MAF sensor code on the computer too, wondering if it is cascading codes because of this? I looked at the MAF, the wires look clean. But I know that doesn't say much! Should I go ahead and replace the O2's???
Oh... 114k

At 114K your O2's are about shot, if it were mine and I was trying to get someperformance back, they would be replaced.
If there is some noise in the top end, I would bring that up, cause there shouldn't be. The Maf, if failing will cause the engine to run lean and could cause a rough idle. Also, you might look at your motor mounts, if they are cracked, especialy the left one, you will feel real rough at idle. What are you running for gas? Get back to me. Mike |

Well, actually it will have to be done one step at a time. I sold it to a friend, and I am her mechanic
. I would like to replace the MAF, and O2 sensors. But she is on a budget. So I think first MAF, then the O2's. Do you know where I can get a quality used one? As far as O2's go, on my D1, I used nissan ones, and spliced in my plugs. Same sensor, just diff plugs. Could I use the same ones? Thanks. BTW, they cost me about $70.00. NEXT Question.... There is slack in the drive line? Any ideas? ......... I am glad I only paid $5000.00 for this machine, she is a sneaky one!!!![]()

There are enough people parting out Discos that I would think you could find a good used one in one of the Rover classified section.
By the way, the o2's for a D2 are cheaper, by a fair amount, check rover connection or put it out as a post, someone should be able to tell you where to buys them right. There is always slack in Rovers drive train, so as longe as it is not one of the u-joints, especially the 2 in the front double cardon where it hooks to the t/case, you'll be fine. Mike |

Mike, that D2 is so different than my D1. It is strange to get used to. Roverconnection is my favorite place to purchase! They are great! Thanks for all your help!

i dont see MAF sensor codes at all.
I do see the O2 codes. Unless a wire is broke then its most likely you need sensors. the purge valve could be something else. I would need to look at some info at the car but the 02 codes are the most likely cause. And when your done you need to reset adaptions. |
