Sorry I am asking so many questions, but I am a fresh owner of a 2000 D2 and I know hardly anything about how land rovers work! I will be posting quite a few questions for the next couple of weeks!
ThanksI have been told by a hand full of differnt people differnt answers, so I turn to the actual owners! What types of oil can I run without ruining the motor? Will it be possible to have it changed a local quick lube? And what octane gas can I run? |

Gas octane you should be using premium 91 or higher as specified in the manual. As far as oil, the dealer uses Castrol synthetic oil. Castrol is one of the best oils out there to fight sludge buildup, which Rover v8s' are well known for. Look around on Ebay motors for a RAVE cd. They have all the manuals on computer format and they sell for like 10 bucks, some place used to give em away free. Good tool to have.

I agree with Badger go with Castrol, or spend a little more and buy their synthetic blend or pure synthetic.
Depending on how cold you get in the winter 10/30W or 10/40, in the summer go to 20/50W. Might also see if you can find K&N 3001 oil filter larger then factory with a better quality of filter media. Mike |

So this is what I am taking in from ya'lls info: I need to use a good quality synthetic oil(Castrol) and a heavy duty oil filter. I live in texas, so 10w/30 will probably be ok year round. and I filled it up with 91 octane on my way home!
Now, should I ever run a thing of fuel system treatment through it, maybe once a month or so? What about putting a quart of Lucas in it when I get the oil changed, would that do anything for it? Thanks for any feedback! |

I used Valvoline High Mileage (I got 115K) 10W40 with genuine oil filter when I was back in Michigan. I still use it here in North Carolina. I also use Redline fuel system cleaner every now and then too.
Thanks, Carlos |

I alternate between Amsoil 20/50 and Amsoil 10/30 with the big K & N oil filter.

I've tried Amsoil, Mobil 1, Rotella and Castrol. I found Amsoil 20w-50 in warm/hot weather worked the best w/ K&N 3001 filter. I also use a can of sefoam in the crankcase and gas tank a week before the oil change.

I seem to have a problem finding 20W50 anything!
![]() I wanted to use it in the truck after I got back from MRM, but couldn't find it. I ended up going with regular Valvoline, 10W40. And since it is getting cooler out, I might as well stick with it. But where can I find 20W50 Castrol Synthetic Blend, sounds like something I could use.
