From his other thread:

"And really funny now...

There is froth in the oil and the exhaust is shooting black mess....

Please tell me this isn't what I think it is........ "

I stated that if it oveated that bad and he was replacing the head gasket that it would be a good idea to pressure test the block. In my case when the previous owner overheated the my Disco the result was a slipped liner as well as the head gasket. PT Schram also concured that from his decription of events the engine was likely toast. The other thread throws a lot more light into the why he thinks that.

That being said, was a pressure test of the block ever done? It was simply a suggestion to avoid doing the work twice.

Yes they did pressure test the block and it came out okay.

Ive never pulled heads before Mike.
Lift kits and the like, sure.
Clutches? Okay.

Never pulled heads though.
And from what im seeing these are a pain.

But I will go for it.
What are the odds I will not need to machine the heads?

Well that's real good news" Where do you stand with it now then? Is the shop saying what caused the over heat?

What caused the overheat was a throttle body hose that runs the coolant.
It failed and the truck lost all coolant.
And the girl who was driving it at the time continued on for like 30 minutes.

Yes times are tough for sure. They can get quite pricey to maintain but they are nice trucks. I would not keep mine if it was not just a third vehicle to have around. My titan has more power, better milage and 258K trouble free miles.
I am currently rebuilding the oil pump on mine and considered installing a new cam position sensor while I was in there but when I looked on ebay there ridiculous for a good new one. So back in goes the old one. There is no reason they should be that much just because it is a Rover.

Good luck with your repair.

The oil pump is easy. The head gaskets ar fairly easy also. This is one of the easiest engines to work on. Lots of room, old school engineering.

Well I suppose I'll get to it!

Ill post when I know if that was the problem.

Should I go ahead and replace plugs and coils too?

I would do the plugs and wires. Many on here like the 8mm STI wires and the Bosch 4 plugs and I agree. That is what I run and I am very happy with them. I see no reason to replace the coils unless they have failed.
