Drillbit, thanks. I spoke with Will, he gave be the best price. I'm riding on it in order to save up some $$$. Also, I'm wondering, Can't we just replace the engine gaskets and let that be it????

Valve job
Plugs
wires
all gaskets
heads resurfaced
thermostat

Where does it end?

brian,

I just had my engine pulled for cam bearings and I got a quote for some head work - $1400 just for the machining... I passed on it since it wasn't going to guarantee a performance increase...

total cost of engine work (every bearing replaced, gaskets, cam, and the 60k mile service - $2900... It was a BIG kick in the nuts...

So, from what you said (never overheated, just leaking), you may just need new gaskets... Ask your guy for a quote without the head resurfacing, just a check... Then, if it needs the resurfacing, then do it... Also, ask him where he will get his gaskets and strongly suggest he use the ones you want... I know AB will warranty their stuff for the year...

Jonathan

i have never heard of prices like these. thats is insane i have had heads resurfaced on three different cars in my life because of overheating and the most is what i paid for my recent work on the landie and it was 170.00 to remove 10 thousands and reseat valves and the reseating was for the heck out it. you guys could have you vehicles towed here for repair and still save money.

I'm just upset about these prices. If I had the tools and time I'd do the damn job myself.

Okay, I just got a quote for $1,200. When will this truck need a valve job? 80k now.

Somewhere above 180,000 miles with normal servicing.
Your only concern will be if the heads are warped and that is easy to determine with a straight edge and a set of feeler guages.

I paid $1100.00 for the job counting new rockers at the dealership. However, I was supplying the composite head gasket kit. All in all, It cost me around $1300.00 total.

I paid $200 for a head job done by a professional. Did a really good job.

As far as Head Gaskets, I fix them myself.

I find this hard to believe, dealers are usually at least $2500 plus head work, much less adding new rocker arems. Did you have an extended warranty that coverd part of the repair?
