Default Whats the difference?

I am looking at pics of dII and dI and I am just kinda wondering what the differences are! besides the door handles, I dont see to many cosmetic differences(remember, I am a newbie to l/r's)!

I actually tried to google to find a list, but found this site that was actually pretty good: http://www.cs.unc.edu/~zhangh/LR/comparison.html

other than that, there is 6" more of cargo space.. rear lights are bigger/higher..

If your looking to buy here something to concider.....i am told by many owners who have driven the D1 and D2's that the D2 is much nicer to drive [i can't verify as i only have a D2] but that being said i think if my goal was offroading mostly i would go D1 [shorter and simpler].....just a thought but i can't back it up...

If you have just aquired a D2, welcome!!!

Later, Dean

Hi Rivers edge

You may find this website interesting, they virtually rebuilt the discovery when they went over to the second series.

it would be alot easier to ask what they have in common. almost nothing but a engine block and transfer case.

DI vs. DII

Full floating axles vs. semi-floaters

open vs. closed CV assemblies

shorter vs. longer

smaller wheel wells vs. larger wheel wells

CDL equipped vs. varies by model year

varies by model year vs. rear roto-flex equipped

smaller but somewhat simpler engine vs. larger but more complex engine

side facing jump seats vs. forward facing jump seats (on models so equipped)

And many other differences, some minor, some major, including different wheel bolt pattern, different interior & exterior dimensions, etc etc

As pointed out in a previous post, two entirely different vehicles that share a common aesthetic theme.

SCSL,
The best answer yet.
I might also add that the 99 D2 was the first year to have the Bosh engine management system which I believe to be a big plus.
