Sorry I did search...
Looking at Disco IIs(2004 MY specifically) and trying to get ideas on what to expect when wheeling with the ETC and trying to start setting up a to do list for further mods once I get a feel for the truck. I've read that a dual TT setup is plenty in most instances, but I was wondering about a DT rear/axle upgrade rear/TT front if I were to eventually go that route. Is the Detroit rear compatible with the ETC or is that turned off? |

What sort of wheeling are you going to be doing, how much wheeling experience do you have?
Don't worry about the ETC, the 03 and 04's had an advanced one over eariler models, doest well off road. I run a 99 with a rear Detroit and front T.T., love it and have many friends that run front and rear T.T.'s with good results. Mike |

I will start off getting a good feel for it with just the cdl on some mild trails. Maybe try to meet up with some local guys who have the patience for someone on a learning curve if possible. I have a good head on my shoulders, but no experience on any real trail runs. It's pretty tough in CT. Nothing legal here.

I think the ETC is good. It does what it is designed to do. What I don't like about it is that in order for it to engage a wheel must spin. I'm now of the school of thought that any wheel spin is bad and it should be minimized as much as possible.
On my '03, (with CDL added), I wheel by brake modulation, which will disable the ETC and I find that I drive a hell of a lot better and smoother. If I am struggling on an obstacle after a few tries, I'll give ETC a shot. Also look into Bay State Rover Owners Association ( Land Rover Owners in Massachusetts - Bay State Rover Owners Association ).

I have been in the snow,(Old snow hard packed) and found the ETC to be OK. The slower i go it seems to transfer the power across all four wheels better if i just gun it and end up stoped i get the 2 wheel spin with the ETC not nesscarlly transfering the power to the tires with traction.
A snowy berm seems to tax the ETC as power moves around the vehicle with little bumbs of the braking, while traveling slow it seems to act as it should but put the power to it and you end up just like plane diff action. The ETC pump is noisy when actiave. I have city slicker tires so this may add to the wheel spin since I can loose traction relitivily easy while in the hard packed snow. Talking to http://http://www.greatbasinrovers.com/aboutset.html today I found out they offer complete diffs with the true tracs and new carriers as a package which seems like a good addition to the ETC.
