Default Why did your SES light come on?

Mine just came on, 2000 Series II Disco. Came on while cruising 60mph, no change in engine running. Light blinked quickly for maybe 2 seconds, then stayed on steadily. So, for everyone else with a Series II, why did yours come on?

My 'trio' comes on while hitting bumps while my foot is on the brake. Has only happened a couple of times in the 400 mile I put on my truck so far.

I knew I was having a slow day. I thought that was dropped as of the 99 DII and only a check engine light appears.

Engine misfire is a common cause... if it was blinking, then probably multi-cylinder.

SES aka check engine light is usually a misfire or something to do with the polution control system- usually not a critical issue

I'd make sure that all the vitals seem good, and you'll have to get the code as to what triggered the light.

Good chance it could be your MAF sensor, but also check your gas cap. I've heard of a loose or faulty gas cap screwing with fuel pressure too.

When a check engine light flashes and then stays on that is an indication you have a semi major problem and you should have the code read and repairs made ASAP. Don't wait on this one, have it checked.

After two or three more startups and stops the same day, the light went out on its own...

The gas cap, which I checked after the light went out, DID seem to be not on tightly even though it clicked.

The light has come on once before: when it was zero degrees and the vehicle was exposed to heavy blowing snow and high winds with a very low windchill, and the vehicle had not been run in a day. Then the SES light came on, starting continuously blinking, and the vehicle was smoking and running very poorly. Finally, the light just stayed lit and the vehicle ran a little better. The next day, the light went out on its own and the vehicle ran perfectly. I think the cold start injector must have frozen!

Troverman,
Assuming you will be driving your truck for quite some time, you should know your don't have a SES light, you have a CEL. If you drove a D1 you would also have a SES.

Our 2000 definitely has the "Service Engine Soon" light and not Check Engine. I know they are both MIL's. I imagine SES is to allay customer fears.

I stand corrected, I thought all DII's had check engine lights only like my 99, OH WELL.
