My wife's Godfather happens to be a high end mechanic who enjoys working on high end vehicles and Harleys (I still love the guy in spite of the Harleys). I mentioned to him that needed the 45K service done on my Discovery II and he told me he would do it for me. This guy is a true car enthusiast, even built a 6 car garage at his house with a vehicle lift built into it. Anyway he did the service for me and charged a heart stopping $65 for it. Also let me know that the main seal has a small leak but nothing I need to adress yet (doesn't even leave drops on the ground). Also let me know that it needs new front breaks and rotors and a battery which will cost me about $400 for him to do it.
I'm willing to bet the dealership would charge me $465 just for the 45K service. Also with him I don't mind spending money because I know it's all necessary stuff that needs to be done and it's done right. The fear of being ripped off is as hard on me as the fear of spending the cash. Anyway, I just had to express my happiness. |

Why yes it is having a mechanic handy in the family; I am that person in my family. Ever since high school, I have serviced most of the repairs on all of my family members' cars and trucks. Even did some repairs for a small fee for some of my friends; it was either money they gave me or it was beer or food.
LOLThis is why I am going to school at University of Northwestern Ohio, to get an associate's degree in Auto Tech. Always good to know things about cars, plus I love em', especially my truck. ![]()

I still have the certified pre-owned warranty but according to Land Rover that does not cover seals....oh well, that's the way things go. When the time is right I'll have him take care of it.....I'm just thankful I have a reliable reasonably priced alternative.....who knows it may even work out to saving me more then the cost of the $3800 warranty that would've covered the seals
