Default Will not start Please help?

Seems like I spoke too soon when I said that my Disco is running perfrect.

I drove approximatly 4km and stopped at the shop and my disco will not start. The truck went perfect untill I shut her down and went into the shop and tried to restart.

I do have fuel in
The starter is turning the engine over.
I took out one of the spark plugs and there is no spark while cranking over.
The battery is still strong.
Truck has 140000 miles on.
Manual transmission.

Could the alternator be causing this: (It has never been serviced.)
Could it be the fuel pump? (If so why no spark)

What should I check and how should I check it.

I will appreciate any help.

its a cheap part ($60 usd) that fails quite often. Just replace it. To the best of my knowledge there is not any way to test it, but maybe Mike or someone else can give their thoughts here.

Default Crank Sensor

Thank You Nasa25, it seems as if you have pointed me in the right direction.

I just had a look in the rave manual. It seems as if it is the crank sensor. I do however read in the manual the following:

"Whenever a new crankshaft position sensor is fitted or the flywheel is removed, the adaptive values will have to be reset, using TestBook."

If I replace the sensor, must I put it on testbook before the engine will start?

If it is the crank sensor, and this is a common issue, it may restart after sitting for a couple hours.
Yes, you can test the voltage signal from the crank sensor with either an OHM meter or a good scanner.

Hi Mike.

I still do not understand why I will need testbook after the sensor has been replaced.

You won't need Testbook after install, he was saying you can use a tool to test the voltage of the CPS to verify if it is ok or not.

This video will help make sense of all of this ... I hope..

It will need to be done eventually so now is a great time to replace the CPS.

Good Morning All

I replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor lastnight and the truck fired up perfectly. I drove the truck to work and it seems this all is well. I would assume that there would be no need to get it onto Testbook to have it set.

I really hope that this is the last of my troubles.

Thank You For The Assistance All Of You Offered.

Good JOB! I am glad that was the issue. No testbook needed after install.

I am going to change mine for the heck of it now. I turned the key yesterday and NOTHING... grrrrr I immediately thought CPS. Until I realized my son left the dome light on last night and the batt was dead! Wheeeew!

As mentioned. I have replaced the crankshaft sensor. I would like to know what happens if the cam shaft sensor fails, will the disco start or not?

I would just like to be prepared because that is propably nex to go.

Once again thank you all for the help

It will run without the cam sensor. It won't run as well, but it will run.
