Default Windscreen Gone Swirly (yes, I'm an idiot)

Hi All,

Bit of a cockup. I've been touring in northern France, and collecting loads of squashed bugs all over the windscreen, which became all dried-on and couldn't be removed with the wipers.

So I cleaned them all off by hand. However, the cloth I used was slightly abbrassive (yes, I know.. ) and now I've got all these clouds of swirly scratches all over the windscreen. They are extremely faint and shallow, but when driving an night, or with bright light shining on the window this can really affect visibility.

Does anyone know of anyway of removing these, or polishing them out or something? Or am I going to need a new windscreen?

cheers.

I believe there are some glass compounds on the market, I would talk with a auto glass shop, they should be able to help.

You could try some normal liquid cut & polish use for the paint. The liquid ones are not that abbrasive. I do not know whether you have is over there, but use to find that the stuff we use for cleaning domestic brass and silver called Brasso and Silvo has been OK in the past.

Check your insurance policy - some policies have a one free windscreen replacement per year. This mostly applies to Australia, so I'm not sure if other countries have such a system.

yes there is a product in the US for this. I saw it just the other day and the process is very similar to what you did. You create fine scratches on the surface however its actually quite smooth not deep. Then you take a chemical compound and it just clears it up. If you have a hard time finding it let me know and ill try to pick it up and ship it out. But if you have a local autozone thats where i saw it at.

Hi,
I had this problem too. I used this product from Screwfix, it should sort the swirls out for you.
Here is the link
