Default Anyone have Pics or Suggestions on Kayak Racks???

Firstly, I wanted to see if anyone has any Pics of an Lr3 with 2 ocean kayaks on the roof (preferably in the 10ft-14ft range)??? I am not sure how large they will really be when mounted on the roof.

Secondly, looking for suggestions on mounts for 2+ ocean kayaks. I like some of the models by Thule, but would appreciate feedback / Ideas.

Thanks..........

I haul a yak fairly regular. either a 17.5' single or a 21' tandem. i'll try and get you a picture of the tandem on saturday.

I use the Yakima Mako in the front and Yakima Hullyrollers in the rear.

I would love to see any pictures. It will help me to get an idea of the overall size proportions. The misses and I are looking to get into ocean kayaking and I'm trying to determine the logistics of hauling them to and from the water vs. just leaving them in storage at the beach.

Many thanks in advance for the pictures and advice........

I haul 2 14' wilderness systems pungos up top. For one I use a hully rollers in the back and a mako in the front. For the other side I use hull raisers. No real reason I use two different types other then I had the rollers sitting around and when I needed the second set up I bought the hull raiser.

Rollers
Yakima Products - HullyRollers

saddles
Yakima Products - Mako Saddles

Hullraiser
Yakima Products - HullRaiser

Both are pretty easy to load, depending on your height. I'm 5' 10" and I can easily roll the yak onto the truck using the hully rollers without hitting the back of the truck. The hull raisers are a little harder and at my height I have to stretch a little bit to lift it on.

If you do not have the factory cross bars you will need to buy mounts and cross bars. They do sell locks to lock the rack to your truck (it disconnects VERY easily and would be easy to steal), but I just snap the racks off and throw them in the back while I have the kayaks out.

Mounts
Yakima Products - Control Tower

Cross Bars
Yakima Products - CrossBars

Another option is the Hullavator by thule

This has gotten mixed reviews, but my wife can not load the kayaks on the truck by herself due to the height. If this works as advertised, it should help her if she wants to solo.

I'll see about getting some pics the next time we go kayaking.

Good Luck

-Bryan

This is kinda weird because I happen to have 2 ocean kayaks on the roof right now!!! Sad thing is no pics at the moment, I'll take them in the morning for ya.

BTW I've got the Rover Racks full length rack, just bungeed them on there, stayed on there for up to 90 mph during a 6 hr trip.

I'll post pics shortly...

Edit to my post above. The kayak pictured on my truck is a 12' Pungo, not 14'.

Sorry and I hope the pic helped.
