Default Axle Bearing Noise

I have an '05 LR3 that has developed a grinding noise in the front axle. I took it to a local mechanic since the nearest dealerships aren't convenient. Without tearing it down yet, they have said the noise seems to be coming from an axle bearing on a "stub shaft" on the longer side of the front axle. Can anyone advise as to how big a deal it is to replace this? Thanks!
