I have an '05 and the brake light just came on and I knew it was going to happen soon. Dealer told me I needed new pads and rotors. I have 53k and the 2nd owner, so I do not know all the history. I know its cheaper to do the labor myself, however I am not a highly skilled wrencher. Dealer has quoted me $1600. Is there anywhere in the DC Metro area that anyone can recommend to get a 2nd look? Any help is appreciated.
My front brakes just went and I was faced with the same problem. Dealer quoted me $890 for one rotor and pads on both sides (front only).
Instead I bought the parts from Atlantic British and had a local shop do the work. (I live in Hampstead MD, close, but probably not worth driving up here when you should be able to get it done locally)
I paid $285 for the parts, which was 2 rotors, front brake pad kit and brake sensor. All OEM, land rover parts.
(Since it wasn't much more I just did both rotors)
Install was $110.
So total bill was less then $400 and everything came out great.

For sure...buy the parts - Get the right stuff! AB is a good place to start.
Don't get crap parts - you will regret it. Save on labor, if you don't do it yourself find a guy on Craig's list that is familliiar with your vehical.
Yeah, what he said.... Don't cut corners on parts, brakes are the most important safety feature on the car. Cheapo parts tend to fail when you need them most. Just my 2 cents on brakes.

I just did my full front/rear brakes/rotors all the way around on my '06 LR3, got everything from AtlanticBritish and did the entire job for $300. The OEM stull was $500, but I've been happy with the OEM rotors and Ferodo pads. It's really not a bad job if you want to tackle it yourself, there's a good step-by-step on this other forum for the rears (fronts are just about the same): Brake replacement - Page 2 - Land Rover and Range Rover Forums
Hope this helps! PS - I'm in the Virginia area outside DC if you need any help.
thanks for all the help. Next time I will def order the kit from AB. I was in a time crunch so I wasnt able to do that. Sucked it up and took it to a local british shop, got killed on parts. They used the same stuff from AB and it was about double the price.
i plan on having an indy do it too........my only question/dilemma is whether I get original LR pads or go to Atl Brit (or some other place) for aftermarket pads............are the OEM's better?
