Hey, this is a weird one. Had a number of problems with my '05 LR3 SE when we first got it, but its been pretty solid lately. I have been getting a Coolant Low warning message (but no light) for a while at startup, but the reservoir looks about right. Anyway, I took it in for its 40,000 mile service, and they noted the warning and said they would take care of it. Great!
So, I got it back about two weeks ago, still have the coolant message. No biggie, there don't seem to be any other symptoms. Suddenly, today, I get a message that says "Reduced Engine Performance" (manual says I don't need to do anything???) and I notice the temperature gauge is climing higher than I've seen it. I can hear the fans, and performance is definitely reduced. I park it, and check the overflow reservoir once it cools down...its fine. Drive it again, and the same thing happens. No other warnings or indicators. Very strange. I guess I'll be taking it back to the dealer, although its not that close and I'm not too excited about the possibility of overheating the thing... Anyone else seen this? What are the "normal" cases for the engine performance reduced message? TIA, jds |

Don't worry about bringing it to the dealer for a fix. If you just had it serviced, and they didn't fix the issue that they said they would, the service manager will send a flat bed out for it. Just call, ask to talk to the SM, and explain very politely the issue. Drop in nonchalantly, that you don't think LRNA would want to replace an engine under warranty that should not have a problem since it just got its 40k service; and I'm sure he'll VOLUNTEER the flatbed, as well as them providing a loaner for you as well.

I've not gotten that message, but from what others have said I gather it can come from a number of things from bad fuel to bad air, etc... could be a problem with the turbocharger, I've read others have had that, or some had blockage to the intercooler & radiator cause similar symptoms - might have a look to see if those need a good cleaning.
The low coolant warning may or may not be related, cuz there's also a known (harmless) issue with the sensor for this, which I did have & got replaced. Is that what the dealer did at last service? If your temp rises again, pull off and call LR assist to pick it up...I wouldn't drive it.

I don't know yet what the original problem was, but there is definitely coolant leaking from somewhere. Its small quantities, as it never seems very low, but its losing a little, because I can see where it sprayed.

sounds like the egr valve, peak underneath the cover. if you see it leaking next to the intake then its a simple replacement.

I had the Reduced Engine Performance message this past weekend. I had to take it in to get the auto dim mirror fixed anyway and asked about it. They told me that it was a software issue and was fixed with an update. May want to try having them do an update under the warranty.

It turned out to be a loose thermostat. Or...that's what they said. No my leak is gone, but I still continue to get a Low Coolant warning message. For $115 an hour I have to say they could be more thorough...
