I have a 06 LR3 needing new rubber. I don't drive very far on a daily basis and the factory goodyears only lasted 23,000, needless to say I am pissed.
After researching and listening to all of your suggestions I decided on the Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60R18. The Cooper website even has a promo for "The Great Continental Divide II". When I tried to order the tires thru discounttire.com, I was told Cooper Tires will not sell the tires because they are have issues with the maximum load capacity. When I searched the Cooper website they don't even offer that size any more. When I look at other tire options such as Nitto's, the specifications are showing the maximum load capacity is much lower than the LR3's curb weight.
General Grabber AT2 , I got them, doing great, no need to change when you go off-road, pretty quiet, look fine.....and disadvantages-not very good on wet road but still safety driving.
but I am not sure if You be able to buy 285. (i got 255)
cheers
I have Toyo Open Country A/T, 255/55-18 and they are holding up well and they look rugged. They also come in P265/60R18 109S and have have the recommended load ratting.
I got 2 sets of Interco M-16's coming for my Range and my brothers Series 2 Discovery. I'll know how awesome they are Monday! The M-16 has a great curb weight, and a nice aggressive tread, your LR3 will be able to do just about anything off road with them, and interco designed them to be great on road as well, I'll know more when I get to start using them Monday!

You can still get the cooper just contact a local cooper dealer. just got a set a few months ago. call around you can get some.
AT2 is known to have sidewall issues on the trail.
If I was not unning the cooper and did not want to run the rod mod 24-7 I would go with the dyna pro at10 in a 265-65

The side wall is a 2 ply on the at2. Talked to a buch of guys who have been running them on the otherside of the pond on disco3.uk. I was interested in them since they are rated as a snow tire. Glad to hear you are happy with them.

I was on the Great Divide Challenge II which was the first year the Cooper Zeon LTZ tires ran on the LR3's. I am still running the same set, now over 35,000 miles since putting them on. I would guess there is still another 10-15,000 of miles left on them. They are a great, durable and highly capable tire, and they not only give a great on-road drive, as my LR3 is a daily driver, but they perform well on pretty tough stuff, including the infamous Blackbear Pass, Poughkeepsie, Nighmare Gulch, Gold Mountain and other tough trails. Obviously, no tire can endure everything, and you have to be smart offroad and choose your line.
That being said...I would buy, and plan on buying, another set of Cooper's when these wear out, if that ever happens.
Cooper tires work great. I've got 12,000 miles on my set, and they are very quiet and hardly showing any wear! I just had them rotated and rebalanced and the technician was amazed at how even the tread wear is. The only noticeable rubbing (they are 1.5 inches larger in diameter than the Goodyears) occurs in extreme wheel lock turns in lowered condition or very tight road turns-but this hasn't produced any wheel well marking or scuff marks. They were $400 cheaper than anything else I wanted to put on the LR3 too.
