Default GPS Update and Radio Questions

Hello all,

I'm joining on behalf of my dad, who, as you could put, isn't exactly tech savvy, lol. He recently purchased a 2005 LR3 V8 HSE from a good friend, and it's become his favorite new toy. I have a few questions, though, as we haven't had any problems, and just recently took it in to the dealer for it's first oil change (under us as owners) and check-up. Now, here are my questions:

1) The GPS isn't registering some areas, and when we recently took it on a road trip to see family in Atlanta, it didn't recognize/register their address. We called Land Rover, and they told us that there is a CD that wil update the GPS. When we went in, though, the parts guy (who didn't seem too on top of things, so to speak) said it can be found online. Any idea where to get it?

and

2) While on the way home from getting some last minute food items for Christmas tomorrow, the radio (FM/AM, namely FM, when we tried to listen to the football games on Sirius) didn't work. The volume was up, the display was working fine, even the satellite radio was picking up fine, but, for some reason, it wouldn't play sound. We came home, let it sit for awhile, then, on our way out again, it worked fine. Odd. If anyone knows why this may have happened, or has experienced it as well, any suggestions would be appriciated.

One more question, too, even though it isn't too important: any idea where to get some Land Rover accessories, without paying the crazy prices from the dealer? He mainly wants a roof rack (we've already got the tracks on it, just need the cross bars) and maybe some all-weather mats for the passenger area and the back.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Kyle

First off buy the rubber mats from the dealer. They range from two hundred to more. But they fit perfect and work great.

heres an idea. call various dealers in various states including southern states to get a lower price.

Otherwise you are cutting and chopping up weathertech ones.

The sound issue comes from either a bad radio or a bad amplifier.

Its intermitten so it might be an issue thats hard to pin down.

Tell me you dont have any water in the passenger side do you. LR3s have a water leak issue whereas the sunroof drain on that side gets clogged up and drips water into the door sill on that side causing wiring issues or damaging the amplifier underneath the seat.

That little plastic piece on the passenger side is a air inlet. Take a plastic knife and pry it out. behind it is the air chamber for the air filter. pull the big piece of rubber out and there is a big sponge. pull that out and you will see a small rubber hose. thats the drain. Cut that off so that is open and clear. Pour water in the sunroof to verify its fixed.

The GPS could be an out of date DVD or perhaps you didnt update to the correct zone. If you read your manual you will see that each zone includes a few states. If you enter into the wrong zone it will come up different. If the zone is correct I would hedge a bet and say the DVD might be bad only in that are though. Had that happen on another vehice in one part of Jersey. Its not like the dealer can drive to Atlanta for you to verify the issue. The DVDs come from Navtech. They aint cheap. And will only be replaced with a known issue if the dealer feels that is the problem.
If you have any other questions just give me a pm.

I'll have to check tomorrow about the leak, as it's dark here now (CST). Here's my idea on the GPS, though: could it be that now we are in CST (we originally lived down in South Florida, so it was configured for EST) it's out of whack? It won't register certain addresses, i.e. when we tried to program my aunt and uncle's address, it didn't even have/recognize the CITY. Any ideas/comments?

Just trying to troubleshoot, I appriciate your quick responses. I've been on forums ever since I started driving and had my own car (I'm 19) and have realized they can be quite helpful, especially when you can diagnose and solve a problem without bothering with the dealership.

page 47 of your navigation book will show you how to change the destination area.

you have to change to that area that you live in to correctly navigate to a certain place. as you go further past your local district it helps to change the map to the location you are currently in. The computer will calculate the route faster as well.
