I just picked up our '05 HSE on Wednesday in Vancouver and drove it 500 miles home on a temporary permit. Nice rig. It's not insured yet though as I imported it from the US and have hoops to jump through to keep the Cdn gov't happy, long story for another time perhaps...so I go to close the upper hatch and the strut detaches from the body. Not at the ball and socket (that stayed intact), but the stud itself came out of the hole in the body. It looks like something backed off the stud threads. I heard something drop down in behind (I'm guessing the nut or whatever holds the stud sturdy to the body). Before I start taking stuff apart, can anyone tell me the "proper" way to get at the backside of the hole so I can reattach? It's still under warranty, but I live 450 miles from the closest dealer so it's not practical to wait.
Also, is there some user sequencing to enable the daytime running lamps, or is that a dealer item? Thanks in advance! '05 LR3 HSE Silver/blk 29K |

Congrats on your LR3 Chief
The same thing happened to me not long ago. There's a technical service bulletin on it (LA501-018). Apparently the factory didn't tighten the top nuts enough ![]() If loose bolts are caught early enough, they can be torqued and some loctite applied. Once they fall off there's no easy way getting to it unfortunately. A hole needs to be drilled in to the bodywork, either behind the rear tail light or the rear interior panel trim to put a bolt in place. If there's no airbag in your rear interior trim, better to go through there. I read one guy welded an M8 bolt onto the end of a coat hanger to manipulate it into the hole. Check that your other nut isn't loose too!

To get a car to pass canadian specs you need the vehicle updated to canadian lights which any usa dealer can do for about a half an hour of their time.
beware don't call the canadian dealers, they seriously overcharge and some american dealers close to the border may do the same. if you have any questions about the rear cargo door problem just email me. Got to be careful what I say.
