Imported LR3 - Land Rovers Only

I am in the process of buying an LR3 which has been imported into the UAE from the US I have been told by the salesman at the garage that as it is a US import there is no engine number.
I need the engine number for the insurance cover.
I know nothing about cars and i think i am been taken for a fool does anyone know whether this is true or not?

Sounds shady to me.
No real reason to remove any serial numbers.

He's a lying sack of SHIT!!!

It is stamped on the engine, but on the LR3, I am not sure where... Is there a Land Rover dealer near your location so you can call and ask? Or you could ask your insurance person if they know...
