Default LR3 Performance parts for HP and Gas Mileage

Hello everyone Im a proud new owner of a beautiful 06 LR3 HSE.

I always like to make some tasteful and functional mods to my vehicles to increase performance, I know the LR3 is not a screamer by any means but I do like to wrench on my vehicles.

SO what I am looking at and parts do not seem as readily available for land rovers.

I used to have an 08 Chevy silverado that I added the full K&N cold air intake, diablo predator performance tuner, GM performance exhaust and Tahoe OEM 20" wheels.

So what I am looking into is:

1. Magna Flow Exhaust - looks like its not to loud a very good thing.
2. A hand held tuner - any out there to correct exhaust and air filter AFR?
3. K&N cold air intake - looks like they only make a drop in filter
4. Tow Hitch and Wire Harness - damn these are expensive!

Also wondering if the 20" RRSS wheels have been used on the LR3 and if there are any pics.

Looking for a little more umph and MPG.

Thanks in advance and I love the new ride.

Forgot to add what web sites are best for these parts?

Congratulations on the new ride. I bought my 07 LR3 a couple of months ago and so far I love it.

Just a quick thought on rims: be sure to check the load rating on 20". The LR3is 5700lb and is uniquely capable of putting the majority of that weight on one wheel. Tire shop guys might say "this rims rated at 2000lb, times 4 you've got 8000lb load rating". Well he's correct, assuming you're on level ground. Most Escalades or Tahoe's will keep their weight evenly distributed over all 4 wheels, but if you're offroading the LR3 on a steep 45 degree incline, you might find that the 2000lb isn't enough.

Happy Shopping

Thanks that is a great safety thing to keep in mind but if I do get wheels it will be OEM landrover wheels and nothing bling etc.. Just figuring I will need to buy tires soon and can get a fairly new set of wheels with tires from ebay etc. from someone selling there range rover wheels.

are you asking for a CAI for the LR3? since the LR3's intake is to the side of the car I assume its sucking in as cold of air as its going to get, plus there is very little data that suggests a CAI will improve you gas mileage...have tried a drop in filter? some of them are less dense than the OE one and will let more air in...most good muffler shops can fab you larger pipes too if you are willing to go to that point...

Yes I will be purchasing a K&N drop in filter in the next day or so.

Do you know of any good online site for Land Rover parts?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Rover! I would also do a little more searching on the use of the K&N air filter with the LR3's. I remember reading that some users had issues with the filter and an air flow sensor on the LR3 that essentially made for a very bad combination that resulted in removal of the K&N. Maybe some here has direct experience with it. I know I have run them in my other cars but avoided installing on my LR3 due to this concern.
Congrats again!

Thanks and DAMN I just wasted $40 on that filter! Oh well that's cheaper than a sensor. Thanks for the info and I wonder if the filters had too much oil on them to begin with. I know they come soaked in oil..........

Sure looks like there are not many performance options for our Land Rovers....I guess that will save me some money hahahha..........or not looks like the tow hitch and harness is going to cost me over $600!

Hi all,

I am a sales rep for K&N in the southeast US. I picked up my 06 LR3 Saturday and just placed my order for the drop in filter. I am curious to know how many people have installed a K&N and have had any trouble out of it. We do extensive research and take all problems very seriously. In this market, any bad apple can ruin the reputation of all your products. Perhaps I should start a new thread for this so I can get an idea of the number of complaints.

I can assure you the pre-oiled factory filter is not the culprit in any case. Moreover, we have shown that it is near impossible for any oil to come off our filters and contaminate any internal parts of the motor (including MAF Sensors) even in the event of over-oiling.

My guess is that the computer learns the A/F ratio, and when that changes it throws a code. Typically, a simple reset of the computer will fix any and all problems of the A/F ratio, since the computer re-learns a new ratio after a reset and will operate accordingly. Disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnecting will reset this in most cases. Perhaps a technician can confirm this for us?

search for D2 K&N. I got a drop in K&N and it messed up my MAF. Tried a paper filter, still messed up. Got a new Maf and paper filter, no problems since(25,000 miles)

Good example. I've had K&N setups on other rigs before my LR3 used with success but based on my reading of all the situations like yours, I won't put a K&N on my LR3 or my D1.
