I just got my Hannibal rack installed. That rack itself is great, the mounting is a little bit different than what I was expecting, but very strong.

With the rack shifted a bit forward to clear my access ladder, the front of the rack hangs over the sunroof about 3" or so. Or in other words, right to the point where the glass slides back and stops.

Okay, I'm being called elsewhere and must run, but the images are uploading now. IMages 01-18. Just change the last two digits of the URL to browse through them:
http://www.nextstepdesigns.com/image...al_rack-01.jpg

First sequence shows the rack as it arrived, with all the bits, then mounted using the Hannibal system. Which I then replaced with some creativity and a bit of work using modified Thule components.

Hannibal has been great to work with, and I am in discussions with them on revising their instructions a bit. I purchased my rack from Atlantic British. It cost an outrageous price to ship to me, but it did arrive quickly and in good shape.

Regards,

NW

Yeah, that was one of our local trails that I've really come to enjoy. It's called the Cleghorn trail. I have photos from my previous excursions on this trail here:

TN-LR3, that is the same ride you criticized not too long ago, due to it's coil springs and V6. Nonetheless, my next mod's are as follows:
- Front skid plate (on back order)
- rock sliders (being fabricated now, I hope!)
- lights for the roof rack (decisions decisions…)
- full size spare tire mounted to roof rack (clamp on back order from Hannibal)
- Hi-Lift mounted to roof rack (once my sliders are done)
- jerry cans on roof rack for fuel and water
- lift kit for coilovers (not quite in development yet, but coming soon I hope)

i dont like it one bit,

There is no way to stop anything at all from sliding into the front of the car when you stop suddenly, sorry but due to twisting and turning and human error the stuff on top will begin to slide and in the instant of an accident or a sudden stop the stuff will slide right onto the frotn of the vehicle with major damage including the windshield, sunroof, roof, and hood.

Every single rack I have seen has a basket type to stop front and rear movement or at least slow it down a bit.

I am sorry but is an expensive accident waiting to happen.

I have no problem with the coils and v-6 , it's cool that you have that and that it's rare too. But I don't remeber criticizing it other than the lack of tint on windows other than that I like your LR3. But if I did sorry about that

Be UBER carefull with those racks!!!!!

They WILL get ripped off faster than you know what the first time a branch or vine gets under it... Just look at it.... nothing to keep a branch or vine from getting caught under it and pulling that thing off... the rails are not built for that directional load. People sitting on it is one thing... I can stand on my hood so those pix don't do anything for me, but getting the lip caught on a vine or branch is a completely different thing and its a goner. Hannibal's are also a bit weak to begin with (I know a D2 owner who has crushed two after gently 'bumping' a tree) so be 'really' carefull.

That sounds like good advice Tim....but, what are vines?

Just kidding, we just don't have them much where I go off roading, but I totally see your point and will be mindfull of similar situations.

Cheers,
