Default LR3 roof rack option and air compressor

Hi all! I would like to add a roof rack to the LR3... a 3/4 length would be fine. Want it to have enough beef that I could get a lift jack, shovel, spare, and maybe 2 cans up there. Seems like the Brownchurch is my only option? I like the ARB stuff, but no mounting for our cars? The factory rack seems a bit light in the loafers for that kind of coin. The Thule and Yakima cargo baskets on roof rails also seems like a light-duty option (I could be wrong?)... any suggestions?

Also looking to mount an air compressor... i like the idea of the ARB under the hood... are these any good? other recommendations?

Thanks!!!

Here is what i did to my OEM roof rack which has worked really well for me so far. Although, I bought mine from someone who was selling it off his lease/return vehicle so I had no problems with hacking it up to make it work for me

That looks great! Looks like you attached the rack directly to the rails? I had thought of mounting options/custom mounts for the roof rails mating to whatever rack I chose... i suppose it can be done, just wondering about the hardware needed to attach into the roof rails. Maybe some DIY'ers out there can point me in that direction

I do like some of the ARB racks and maybe a custom fit kit is the ticket...

Craig, posting pictures of you tackling any trail your LR3 goes on is just plain showing off. LOL, jk!!

Another option for roof racks is: Urban Offroad Urban Offroad
I'm not affilitated with them but I really liked their site and LR accessories like racks, etc.

There's also Rover Racks Rover Racks or go to British Parts of Utah for pics of the LR one (they usually have good LR parts pricing) British Parts of Utah

Good luck in your search. Come back and post pics once you've made your decision!

Air compressor? I haven't installed one on my LR3 (yet?!) but just picked up a PowerTank (since I want to be able to use it for my other vehicles). The PowerTank is super fast and you'd only have to get it filled every now and then.

The Urban racks look a lot like the Rover Racks... though the Rover Racks have railing up front too above the sun roof. Tough call on the rack front...

I recall that Nwoods fella seemed to have the Thule Tracker bases holding onto his Hannibal expedition roof rack... maybe they were customized... I liked his set up. Can't seem to find the Hannibal in US...

and I was looking at mounting an ARB CKMA12 compressor in the empty box under the hood. Anybody with thoughts/experience regarding the ARB compressor? Ideas? suggestions?

The Wind Cheeta by Front Runner was actually my first choice but the OEM rack just sorta fell in my lap when I met someone turning in his lease.....

Yeah, the Front Runner racks are slick... but they are purrricey! especially after you get them loaded with accessories.

Just a thought... I was faffing about on the net looking for options that might not be 'designed' for the LR3, but that might still install into the rails with a wee beit of the ol' customize... I came across this...

anybody know if these are up to snuff? $450 and available local to me in LA... looks like something could be fashioned to mate this bugger to the rail channels... the mounting points are there...

...although that may be for legal reasons... could prolly get a couple cans, spare, hi-lift, and an axe up there... mount some lights on those tabs...

Default LA option

Have you looked into SURCO racks? Aren't they in LA? They are aluminum and available for quite a few vehicles, not LR specific. I haven't really researched it just kinda typing out loud...

I did look into the SURCO, but they seem a bit anemic... suppose I will either do a rack like the Defender with custom fittings, or I will have to pony up and go for the Front Runner... I just want to throw an axe, shovel, lift, and 2 cans up there...

I also was looking into the PowerTank... I tow a tent trailer and run high psi in those tires... might be a good thing to have

Powder coater just called and informed me that my wheels are done and he just mounted and balanced my new Coopers to them... so maybe a pic by this evening!
