Do any of you guys know what the LR3's bolt pattern is???? Here are my thoughts......16" steel wheels....get custom drilled bolt pattern......then fit any tire you want.
Is there something about changing the wheels that would flaw my plan??

They come standard with a seventeen inch tire. I doubt a sixteen would work.
Plus the LR3 has a funky offset. RR and RRS wheels wont work on it because the calipers stick out too far. |

beezel....I had hoped you would tune in..
The idea would be to get the new wheels so you can fit off-road tires.....so you would be scrapping the stock tires. your right though.....with large breaks or funky caliper location perhaps it would be easier to go 17" ..do you happen to know the bolt pattern though? I mean.....there must be something out there? Maybe if you bought something with some super backspacing?? 17" steel wheel with 6" backspacing.....does that even exist?

The offset is the same as a RR III and a RRS. its just the design around the calipers.
If it were me I would just go out and buy a set of seventeen inch rims. but the problem with that is nobody makes decent Seventeen inch tires offroad. the best bet is the nineteen inch Goodyear MTR. it aint cheap but they would work. |

Its not really a downside its just no one but Gdyear has offered tires.
look at it this way. no eighteen inch 255 55 R18 offroad tires are possible. Look at it this way. By going with 255 55 R19 Goodyear MTR, LR was able to use them on all three models for G4 competition. Think of how expensive it would be for LR and Goodyear to make two or more different tires for offroading. Remember you can still offroad with the nineteen inch goodyears. |

dont the late model Dodge Rams have 17 or 18 inch wheels? you would think that someone would make some good off-road tires for them.

The 18" RRS wheels work on the LR3, and Nitto makes the Terra Grapplers for them in 285/60/18 size. They fit on my coil sprung LR3, so if you don't use the lowrider setting on your air suspension equip'd, they should work great.
I was bouncing pretty hard off rocks and ruts last weekend, and never rubbed, and I was trying! ![]() |

I have cooper stt 275/65/r18 mt's, they did rub when full turn going right but i trimmed the fenderwell and now it doesn't. but the tires do rub on full stuff in the back on those little plastic cover for somethin that is on the front of the rear fenderwell. They do grip really well though

Seems everybody always forgets that General makes a great tire for the 18" rims. Its called the General Grabber AT. I like it much better than the Nitto's.

That General Grabber is a decent looking tire, more than a passing resemblance to the BFG A/T's, but there is NO DATA on sidewall reinforcement. Since it's described as an A/T tire and they are silent on the issue, I am inclined to think it is a single ply sidewall without any special bead locking design.
Yes, I looked at technical data on General's site, and they say nothing. When off roading, you blow tires in the sidewall, not usually in the tread area. I am skeptical of these tire's suitablity off road. |
