Unhappy Mirror - Any way to convert to a Power Folding for LR3, passenger side

I have a very small garage and need to see if there is a way to end up
with a power folding mirror for the passenger side of the LR3. Unless there
is I will not be able to buy the vehicle. Any ideas?

nope, power folding is an option for only RR.

but they do fold btw, its just manual fold in.

most vehicles that have that option are very large vehicles including Cadliac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.

power folding is a limited option on almost all vehicles in the states.

You sound like the salesmen at two LR dealers, yes here in the USA! Since I test drove the LR3 I am well aware they fold. I will be folding the driver side mirror with my hand as I enter the garage. Actually, a number of smaller vehicles have power folding mirrors. I test drove the Volkswagon Touareg V8 and the new ML V8 and they both have them (and are good SUVs). I had owned a Discovery years ago and liked it so now I want the LR3 but may have to settle for those other two unless I can get the passenger mirror converted.
If you look at a RR right next to a LR, the outer black shell looks about the same; it is just the part that attaches to the body and the next black shell that looks different. Thus the outer black shell may be substituted in? Or perhaps there is another way of doing it, i.e. replacing the whole structure with an aftermarket product?

PF mirrors are on the LR3(Disco 3) spec in the UK & some other regions - don't know why not in the US. It functions off the same door switch for mirrors - you might try checking with UK dealers or headquarters on how difficult it would be to retro-fit.

LMAO! Here, here Todd! My garage is tiny too. Had to strip out the shelving on the left wall...still a squeeze but I manage...well worth it! (a good reason to keep my weight down too )

Thanks for the reply as this is the first indication I might be able to do this.
I want to purchase the LR3 before 12-31-2006 so time is of the essence.
Does anyone have any idea whether there would be any problems on say I buying the LR3 and then ordering the passenger side mirror from the UK and just replace the whole passendger unit say in January 2007? Also, does any one have an email address that I could email to order the PF mirror, from the UK, or elsewhere.

Landrover.com (select UK) should list dealers but you might try posting a request for a good UK dealer on the http://www.disco3.co.uk forum.

Good luck, hope it works out!

I have a few suggestions:
A)As you pull up to the garage, get out of the car, walk around, push the mirror in, and continue as was.
B)Just drive in and let the wall push it in for you ^_^

Dear Billy,

Thank you very much for your helpful suggestions. I thought of one more:
I could put a rope over the mirror and then over the top of the LR3 and then pull on the rope to pull the mirror back. If you can think of any more, please post them.

The rope would look much to bulky, and would lack the ability to push the mirror back out.

Get one of those long grabber arms the Gray Set uses when they drop thier prunes. Retractable so it's not balky in the car.

Or the obvious... a man servant. You could be like Clueseau and Kato. He's be punished if the mirror ever gets hit, and you try to take out the mirror to get him in trouble. Karate ensues!

Or two babes to ride along with you, with a wacky older chaperone riding in the front seat. You'd have to pretend to be gay to ride in the same car all the time and not ruin thier reputations, but secretly you oogle them as they fold in the mirrors. But the chaperone thinks all the curvy bouncy is wasted on you! You'd have to make eyes at him to keep the ruse going and he'd freak out in a comic way.

Let me know if these will not work in your situation.

I think Rovin4life is correct. The euro guys on www.disco3.co.uk have tried because the base model spec Disco III does not have the power folding mirrors, but their SE's and HSE's do. Appears that it cannot be easily upgraded. Also, don't forget that whatever harness comes with it would have the switch on the right hand side, not very useful for you on the left!
