Default Newbie that posted a few weeks ago..ended up with an '07 LR3

Hey I posted a few weeks ago. We were considering an '05 LR3 and looked hard but couldn't find the deal we wanted...then found an '07 LR3 in Charlotte with about 9k miles...dealer loaner. They had it about wholesale price to move it. After two days of negotiating on the phone, the deal was done yesterday and i drove it back to Raleigh. So far so good! Pretty impressive vehicle!

I'm taking my time trying to learn the features and take advantage of them.

A few questions...(and I've emailed the salesman these also)..

I watched the DVD that shows a woman lowering the middle seat then pulling the strap underneath and lowering again to deck height. She appears to do this with ease. I performed the same steps after my daugher was unable to lower the seat to deck level..and I have to say..it took considerable heft to get the seat down. I havn't even tried to get this back up to normal position. Am I doing something wrong? Does it need a shot of WD40 somewhere? Hmm..

Also, I can't seem to get the fog lamps to come on. I'm going per the manual and I'm not in auto mode. Any tricks to this? A fuse blown?

These two are my only 'sqawks' so far. I'm a pilot and really get into all the details and nuance of such things. This is fun!

Thanks in advance for any advice related to my two questions..or in general!

Bob

my dad has an 06, its not easy to get them to go flat, but it should be too hard. kinda takes some practice, i don't think it should need any WD40 the stuff those seats pivot on are pretty greased up to begin with.

i think you pull the light switch out 1 click or 2 clicks. it doesn't turn to the lights, just pull the knob. go try it!

lets see some pics too!

Yeah I was trying to lower and raise the middle seat from the driver's side back door. The DVD shows the lady doing it from the passenger side with ease. Either she has the knack for it or she can bench press 300 lbs. Hey, Who knows. I'll keep goofing around with it.

No pics yet! Will posts some soon. It's a V8 SE version w/Zermat Silver exterior and tan interior. Very sharp, I must say. It doesn't have NAV ..but the NAV on my Honda Ridgeline was a complete pain in the ass...so I'm good with Mapquest and asking directions from convenient store clerks...

Oh. Yeah I'm pulling the knob out once for the front fog lites and twice for the rear..to no avail. I'll see what the dealership says!

I also noticed the factory goodyears have worn down considerably in only 9 k miles. I'll keep that in mind when replacing them.

Thx. Bob

you'll want to find another brand than the goodyears for your next set of tires nitto makes a terra grappler that many people like also cooper's are meeting with rave reviews on these trucks.

yeah the goodyears on my dad's were shot when we bought his with like 13k miles or w/e.

make sure the headlights were on when you pulled the knob, they don't come on without the other lights on...otherwise have the dealership mess with the stuff.

I spend 95% of the time running around town and on road trips. The only off roading I do amounts to riding on pretty good trails at my hunting club in eastern NC and some plowed fields going to and from a goose blind...

I'll looking for a good tire that will last more than 10 k miles! Also needs to be quiet on the highway...so any suggestions along those lines would be welcome.

i have michelin diamaris tires on my Disco 2. my dad still has goodyears (got a new set for free). for street tires you can looking into some of the different michelin options. BF G has some decent all terrain and Nitto has a good terra grappler for mild offroad use. go to a local tire choice or some other tire/lube change place like that ask them what tires should be on the car. they will run it through their database and show you the proper options, then go to your dealership or someplace else to have them mounted, installed and balanced.

Fog lamps didn't come on. I replaced the 15 amp fuse and they operated for about 30 seconds then went out again. I assume it blew that fuse too. Must have a short somewhere in that circuit. Will get the dealership to fix me up on that one when I go in for the 15,000 service.

Thanks for the recommendations on the tires. Incidentally, how did your Dad swing the deal where he got new Goodyears for free??

Thx.

Was Larry Williams your sales guy? If so, he's a good interface with the Charlotte service guys who are a bit surly.

Yeah he sold me the vehicle...but I'm in Raleigh, so I'll go to the Cary NC dealership for service. I tried to work with them on several vehicles but they wouldn't come off the price, so I drove to Charlotte and bought one from Larry, who really worked hard to make the deal work.

I'm sure I'll get a bit of a cold shoulder in Cary when I roll up for service...but they can get over it and go to work. I don't do 'surly' from the service department. A brand warranty is a brand warranty..simple as that.

Thx!

Take off the left side fog light, it comes out with a t20 socket. the wires got pinched during the build and they are rubbing on each other. seen it a few times already.

Just don't act as if you do not know the vehicle and its well documented quirks. Good luck!
