Default pics of side door moldings, 3/4 or full roof rack

Hi all,

Just bought an 06 LR3. Absolutely love the car so far! I have owned nothing but dodge cars and trucks in the past so this is my first experience with not only foreign made cars, but a capable off-road SUV also. I am looking at several parts to buy and wanted to get member pictures/opinions on them.

First the side door moldings. More aesthetic than anything else but I cant find good before and after pictures so if anyone has installed these on their LR3 I would love to see what it looks like! I think it breaks up the flat surface of the doors pretty well myself. Here is a link:

Also I need the hitch and I am assuming wiring harness also? When I bought the car I assumed if nothing else it would have a towing wiring harness! I thought this was pretty cheap of LR to make people buy this separate. I found a parts dealer on ebay that sells them together here:
Rover LR3 Range Sport Tow Hitch Receiver and Wiring Kit:eBay Motors (item 190309155476 end time Aug-18-09 18:08:16 PDT)

I know the roof rack topic has been beat to death, but I'm kind of confused on all the parts I would need to buy to make these fit on our LR3's. I found a thread that had a picture of the Brownchurch roof rack that looked pretty slick. Still debating on rather to go 3/4 or full. I like the way both look and I like the idea of mounting lights on the full rack. What I'm worried about is the wind noise of the full rack since it is right over your head and also if the sunroof will still open with the full racks. Does anyone have experience in both? How is the wind noise of the full compared with the 3/4? Looking at getting the ladder also. I cant envision any real complications with that though.

Has anyone installed the snorkel? Not that I would get one, just curious if gas mileage or horsepower suffered any.

Thanks in advance for all opinions!

I'm relatively new to the LR3 world with an 06 myself. I have been a pretty loyal Toyota fan for many years with four still in the driveway.

The 06 LR3 I have is in Java Black and already has two door dings on the left passenger back door. I plan to purchase and install a set of the side protectors soon. I'll take pics when I do.

I'm also looking into the hitch and wiring. Toyota makes you pay for that wiring too, so the only surprise was the steeper price for LR stuff.

I have also been considering a roof rack and found this site to be interesting; DISCOVERY 3 LR3 ROOF RACKS made in the USA

Some other things I am considering is the rear bumper spare tire mount (don't have the link on this PC), 1.30" wheel spacers, and a bigger sized tire. I already hate the stock tires that came on mine and plan a brake upgrade later on also, like the drilled/slotted rotors and EBC green pads.

eBay also has a Magnaflow exhaust system that should add some rumble and HP, it's just a little pricy too.

Good Luck!
BJ

I've got the Rover Racks Full Rack, and I love It

Its extremely tough, I've had at least 600 lb. up there, but It does make noticeable wind noise, but I've gotten used to it by now, Had it since May 09

And they custom make them, so you can get any mounts you want...

I have a spare tire, High lift, axe, and shovel mounts on the rack, all powder coated for more durability.

Not affiliated, just a satisfied customer

OOooo I havent seen those yet. I like them! And the rear hatch still opens with their ladder. nice.

I found better pictures of the door protectors that someone had installed, but still wasnt a great view of them. I went ahead and ordered the hitch and wiring off ebay. Looking forward to the pictures!

Default Side Mouldings

I installed the side mouldings, bought a set on Ebay, in the box; cheap ($50). I thought they might prove to be an installation epic, but I followed the instructions exactly, step-by-step, and also measured and marked very diligently. The installation went very smoothly and took about an hour.

It looks really good and more importantly provides protection from door dings.

Finally got the door protectors in but it's been raining everyday since.... Maybe this weekend will be dry enough to get them installed and take some pics.

I think I'm going with Curt Mfr.'s aftermarket Class III Hitch. Besides being cheaper, it just looks more robust, and would protect the Maganaflow Exhaust Tips I plan to have showing someday. Also gives a place to mount some extra backup/work lights and I've already got a pair to install.

I also went with the Surco Urban Rack because I already had it, just needed the mount bracket for the LR3.

I really like the thought of the rear Swing Away Tire Mount but, from British Pacific I learned the Mfr stopped making them because they were not selling. And, they indicated that LR3 skid plates may be in short supply too. Bummer!
