I'm new to Land Rovers, but am very seriously looking at a Certified Pre-Owned 2006 LR3 HS V8. I've read consumer reviews and have seen complaints about tire wear issues and related technical service bulletins. I've also seen complaints about electrical issues, but it seems like some of them are related to Navigation, which this truck doesn't have. Is there any way to tell if the TSB's have been completed on this truck, or am I stuck taking the stealership's word on it? I tried to search the forums, but didn't come up with much. I would greatly appreciate any information you guys/gals can send my way on these topics or any other known issues.

I also feel that MZC had a rare bad expereience, and thats NOT to say that his vehicle is a possble lemon. But he does well to point out in his review that he made the very poor choice to return his vehicle to very bad service shops (which everyone should head regarless of the vehicle). BUT, that is definitely not the LR3's fault. Also of important note, the shops that he used are in Austrailia, I am not sure how the standards for mechanics work there, may or may not be a factor.

I think the mechanics there get compensated with roo meat and beer.

Thanks in advance!
I own a Land Rover Discovery II. When gas prices were almost $5.00 a gallon Land Rover in Los Angeles dropped the price on a brand new LR3 to $30,000 with a 50k warrenty. Keep THAT in mind when you talk to the stealership. When gas went up - thier prices on new LR3's went WAY DOWN. At that point I seriously considered buying one. However after careful consideration I would rather just hold onto my Discovery II (which has been paid off for a while and is in super good condition) even though it requires allot of repairs.
The main reason is because I don't like the way the LR3 looks compared to the D2 and even some older models (nor any of the other new LR models). I think Land Rover is getting away from it's roots. The LR3 does not look enough like a Land rover to me. It needs more volume.
Plus when you buy this car it's going to plunge in value. It will also require allot of repairs and the parts way are more expensive than Discovery II's.
You can get a really nice used Discovery II with all leather for around $5k and you will own it outright. At that point you are just looking at constant repair costs.

Just my 2 cents.
You can't be serious! The DII is a nice rig in its own right, especially the 2004, but the LR3 is better. The LR3 has a much nicer ride, better reliability (thus far) and is every bit as capable off-road, if not more. The design of the LR3 is head 'n shoulders above the DII. There is simply more attention to detail.
I'm not sure how you can say that it doesn't look like a Land Rover. I don't agree with you one bit, but don't care to go any further because we'd simply be arguing opinion.
All that said, I really like the D2 and if the original poster wanted a rig to hit the trails with I'd just as soon take a D2...if he needs a daily driver that he can also hit the trails in I'd take the LR3.
My two cents.... I owned a D 2....... and I admit I had a few repairs to make, but It was a great ride.... I now, just a few months ago bought a 05 LR3 SE. Based on my research, biggest issue on 05's we're the control arm bushing and or anti sway bar and or steering link issues....
I'm in the process of changing my control arm bushings. That, so far is going ok.
I still would recommend the LR3. Once your bit by the Land Rover bug, its hard to shake it..... I love rovers!
You mean a guy who had a crappy experience with LR3 does NOT have a right to make it public? You know, if the owner complains about a car just for the sake of complaining that is one thing. This poor guy went through all the repairs and it is the least he can do. I am surprised he did not set the car on fire and put it through a wall of the dealership.
