Angry Replace the stupid NAS LR3 badges!

Hey All,

I did this for my Discovery 3 a couple years back and I figured I would share some pics and details.

I don't know how the rest of you feel about the nameplate "LR3" but I think it's F'ing stupid and redundant. What is it? A Land Rover Land Rover 3? It's especially frustrating when you factor in the Freelander 2's LR2 badge and the LR4. It's all nonsense. Some idiot at LR came up with this nomenclature with the misguided idea that Americans love X5s, G500s, LX470s, etc simply because of their alphanumeric models. Luckily they have already stated the Discovery name will return on the next model! /rant

Anyway, here are the part numbers:
"DISCOVERY" part # DAH500020LPO
"3" part # DAB500160LPO

Easily sourced from ebay.co.uk

Remember to mark the Bottom and Left edges of your current badges with masking tape before you remove them to get the alignment correct. Use fishing line to easily remove the old "LR3" and throw that S#it out.

It's called an LR3 here because the D1 and DII had a bad reputation in the US and Land Rover figured Americans would be too stupid to figure out that the LR3 and LR4 were actually a Discovery 3 and Discovery 4.

Personally, I would just de-badge it and forget about putting the Discovery name on.

I'm not a big fan of the shaved badges look. I know it was in vogue a couple years ago but I think it makes cars look kinda cheap and generic.

Whatever their reasoning, LR2, LR3, LR4 are just bad. D400 and D440 would've made some sense for the V6 and V8 Discovery 3's. At least then you'd get a sense of engine size like the Benz does.

Soooo glad the evoque didn't end up with the name LRX like the concept.

That is the story I heard too, the one about Americans preferring the alpha numeric designation coupled to the DI and DII's bad rep.

So it's on you Yanks and your dubious obsession with the retarded JD Power consumer reports! lol

I too think it is stupid. Designer 'made up' names and photo copier XYZ1000 designations are just crap. MB does it because they are German, and have no imagination and even less style. But they can get away with it because they are German. I like vehicles that have proper names, and "Discovery" is quite a good one for a 4x4.

So, I like it and may do the same.

Not worth getting your panties in a twist. Many models worldwide have differnet names specific to their local markets. IMO go for the floss and debage!

I like this idea, I have been thinking about doing it too. Is it called "LR3" in any country other than the US? Not that I have seen. I don't know if I care enough to actually order the part but it's a cool idea

I did this same thing, and have also been annoyed that LRNA stepped away from the legendary Discovery name.

"I don't know how the rest of you feel about the nameplate "LR3" but I think it's F'ing stupid and redundant."

I somewhat agree…as is my opinion of having LAND ROVER plastered across the leading edge of the hood (bonnet) when right below it is the Land Rover badge…which I prefer.

Hmmm…remove the LR3…and maybe the SE as well. Maybe I'll find a cool looking Hybrid emblem to replace them!
