Default Smoking LR3 after oil change?!?

So my dad took his V8 2006 LR3 SE down the street to a Tire choice for an Oil Change today. We requested the weight as disclosed in the book (5w30) but in a synthetic. The car comes off the lift with a 10w30 synthetic and smoking exhaust which obviously was the motor burning oil.

Our car is under warranty, we're afraid that these dumbasses just voided our warranty and may have messed up our motor.

The car is still sitting at tire choice and LR of Fort Myers will be contacted in the morning.

Engine light did come on however, their crap reader couldn't read it so I have no code # for you guys.

I really need all the help I can get for my dad. I've never had a problem with my disco and i've run syn and normal oil in all sorts of weights over the year i've had it.

My guess is if they did everything correctly that they over filled the crank case.

if not there is a leak that is driping on the exhaust and causing the smoke.

5W-30 or 10W-30 or even a 15W-40 would not cause engine smoke in such a short time.

thats what i figured. do you think the code is from the 02 sensor?

if normal oil level is restored will it be ok to burn off whats there?

I am not sure about the code .I am new to the landRover thing.I drove a Mitsubushi for 10 years without any codes.

but yes if the level is restored to standard level then the excess oil should be burned out of the intake and exhaust and all should be fine. The only issue that may arise is a leaky seal some where from the excess of oil.

expect to pay lots of money from the dealer. first off they are going to change the oil and charge you if its over.

Sorry but you went to someplace that doesnt' know rovers and are expecting a wonderful experience. If I was the dealer I would charge you to have the vehicle towed and for everything they screwed up. chances are your dad is paying the bill and he will have to fight the oil place for every penny.

no. dealership is covering it. i fixed the problem myself yesterday. we burnt off the remaining oil, i cleared the code with my obd2 port reader (under the recommendation of the service manager at LR of FM. so the dealership knows about the problem), i then took it to the dealership pulled the 02 sensors and cleaned them by hand.... its all good, warranty is in tact, car is normal.
